Pendry has the better field conditions but Mills has the better park layout. Have not been to Bartlett in a long time but I here nothing but good things about it. As for handeling whether Pendry does a very good job, but I will assume so does Mills with the kind of surface that is down there. I guess we will find out tonight as we are scheduled to play there and it is supposed to rain today.

You are right he does play for the cobras. All games at Mills, Cov. Complex, and Pendry are called off for tonight. I don't know about Bartlett or Boone Co. Fields. I stopped by Mills at about 5pm and with a little work those fields would have been playable no problems. Everything is rescheduled at Mills for tomorrow.

My son plays B2-Div I and our home field is Bartlett. I don't think the fences are any shorter at Bartlett than other fields and they have played in Ky, OH and Ind. I only recall seeing about 6 homeruns(2 were my sons) and attend about 95% of the games. There team has a game tomorrow night at Tealtown(Eastgate area). GO BULLDOGS!!!!

I drove by Silver Lake after work. Those two fields would've been playable with a little work, so I know the others had to be playable. They must not have had enough people available to work on the fields in time. I know at Mills, it's county ran, so no coaches/parents can get out there early and work on them.

The Tigers moved on with an 8 to 2 victory over the Titans from Campbell County. They played one of their better games to date. They were very aggressive on the base paths, and I think that was a surprise to the Titans.

If the catcher leaves the box prior to the delivery of the pitch, it's a balk. If he lines up outside the box, it's a balk. Same thing goes for a 1st and 3rd baseman. If they are holding a runner on, and they are standing in foul territory, it's a balk.

I'd have to say more than a couple were earned. I don't recall many errors made by the Titans. They were slow getting rid of the ball a few times to the plate, but I wouldn't consider those errors. If you narrow it down to earned runs, then the Titans come away with only 1 run. A misjudged fly ball followed by a throwing error in the first plated their first run. Then a shot by the big boy followed by a sac fly scored their final run.

 

I was really impressed with the Titans shortstop. He made some nice plays, and has a strong arm. The starting pitcher threw hard, but he was having some command issues. There were times he'd have to let up to throw a strike, plus he got the ball up too much. If he could keep it low and mix his speeds up, he'd be solid. His delivery was also a little slow to the plate allowing the Tigers to steal. The catcher has a good arm, but with the jumps the Tigers were getting, he didn't have a chance at throwing them out. The Tigers pitcher did a very good job keeping the ball down and mixing speeds. He also has the issue with the slow delivery to the plate, but he can get away with that a little more with being a lefty. I look forward to seeing these two meet again probably next Friday.

They do generally get great jumps. However, last night, they weren't stealing like they usually do. Granted, the guys with good speed were stealing, but not everyone like usual. The Titans catcher had a good arm.

 

When Craig came in, it was a given that he was going to pick the kid off. He's got a solid move now that he mixes it up. When he first started pitching, he had the same move every time. Now that he's mixing it up, it's hard to steal on him.

 

Also, that was their 100th win since D1, not t-ball. They are 100-24 since then. Not bad for a drafted team.

Most of the bolded is false, and this is a common misconception in baseball:

 

The catcher CAN leave the catcher's box prior to the delivery of the pitch. He is allowed to leave at the "time of the pitch", or as soon as the pitcher has started a motion that commits him to pitching.

 

If the catcher lines up outside the catcher's box then the ball cannot be put into play as, according to NFHS Rule 1.4 - "At the time of the pitch all fielders shall be on fair ground, except the catcher, who shall be in the catcher's box." You must have 8 in between the lines and 1 in the box to put the ball in play.

 

The final one is the biggest misconception, and also ties into the above discussion. Again, Rule 1.4 states "a fielder is in fair ground when at least one foot is TOUCHING fair ground." A 1Bman can hold a runner with a whole foot in foul territory. He can do anything as long as his foot is touching that line somewhere. And the kicker is that if both feet are outside the lines, guess what? You can't put the ball in play.

 

So, as I said before, the Catcher's Balk is a myth.
