June 25, 200818 yr This year my son will play in the 9 year old tourney, the first time they are eligible. As he starts to play in it, it brings back memories of the chances I had to play. The older groups have lost some of their luster due to AABC and Division 1, but at nine most players are still in Knothole. I find myself looking forward to it almost as much as he does, it is very refreshing to come home to a boy with his ball and glove begging you to toss with him. I have went through this as a player and dad (with my older son), and have nothing but good memories of both experiences. Neither myself nor my older son won the entire thing, we both made it across the river, but that does not change the memories. I was just curious of any other memories you all might have.

June 25, 200818 yr The best team I ever played on won it the one year, and then we were runner ups the following year. There's nothing better than a Kentucky team bringing the trophy across the river, because you will typically not get any calls from the umps or anyone in the tourney. The first year we won it, we 10 run ruled every team except Midland, which we beat by 1 in 9 innings on a throwing error. That year, we had a couple protests against us as some coaches thought we were using the same pitcher each game. The two guys didn't really look that much alike, but when you're from Kentucky, you expect that kind of stuff. We went up there with a team from Bellevue that year. Each of us had our own little chant. One day, we were playing on Crosley and they were on Riverfront. They started doing our chant, and we would respond back with the end of ours. Then we'd start their chant, and they'd finish it. It was kind of cool, and all the Ohio teams thought we were all crazy. But then again, when they saw our pregame ritual, they just laughed and made fun of us until we beat them by 10. The following year up there, we got beat by Midland in 9 innings by the same score. We made it through the losers bracket with ease again and met them in the finals. They had a guy on the mound that day that should have been on their traveling team. He threw in the 90s and had a decent curve and sweet knuckelball. We lost by a few runs, but it was still a fun experience. This year, I'll follow the Gold Star Tigers out of Boone County, and we'll see if they can get to the championship game again this year.

We are enjoying it so much we are working our vacation around his sporting events. The things we parents do for youth athletics, but my parents did it for me so it only seems right.

June 26, 200818 yr What age is this? It's D2 through AA. So you're talking around 7 through 17/18 years old. The D2 through A leagues will be going on at the same time. AA starts later do to high school baseball.
