It will be interesting to see if other polls confirm:

Looking good. I expected the bounce after Hillary pulled out and endorsed Obama. The political winds of change can pick up in short notice, however.

Some interesting tidbits:

**Only 14 percent of Americans say they are satisfied with the direction of the country.

**Voters see Obama as the preferred agent of "change" by 51 percent to 27 percent.

**Voters aged 18-39 prefer Obama 55 percent to 27 percent.

**Democrats now have a large party-identification advantage-- 55 percent of all voters call themselves Democrats or say they lean toward the party while just 36 percent of all voters call themselve Republicans or lean that way.** " Even as McCain seeks to gain voters by distancing himself from the unpopular Bush and emphasizing his maverick image, he is suffering from the GOP's poor reputation among many voters.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you Mr. President.

Are you an actual liberal, or do you hate Republicans because of Bush?

It has always seemed to me that the main reason you wanted Obama or Hilary is because you hated what has happened the past 8 years. I did not realize that you have been left-leaning forever.

I would describe myself as moderate on a lot of issues and left-leaning on others, particularly social issues. I see myself as actually a pretty complex character ,predictable on some issues and somewhat unpredictable on others.I have actually grown quite fond of the president for the magnanimous way he has brought such plague to the Geriatric Old Party and energized the Democrats.

Polls at this stage of the game are useless.

Capable of swinging the other way by election time, absolutely. Useless.... absolutely not. If they were useless, campaigns would not pay such close attention to all of the various polling data. Polls let campaigns know what issues they need to tighten up on and issues they might be able to use to their advantage. Polling data is tracked daily and will undoubtedly affect the course of events in both campaigns from now until November.

Not meaning to horn in here cch but how do you deduce that statement based on his post?

I think many have been very upset with Bush because of the last 6 years. That doesn't make them "a left-leaning forever" individual.

To be honest, Bush has been doing what Carter did for many Democrats - drove them away. The victory margin for Reagan was the Dem base that left the party because they were tired of what they saw happening with the leadership. I think the same is happening right now in the GOP and in those old Dems that once crossed over. McCain's best bet is to do what he has always done, "be his own man."

I gathered it from quite a few of math's posts- I believed that he was mainly left-leaning because of Bush, because in some PM's he told me that he was a moderate. But he said he was happy Bush was in office because it kept the GOP out, which led me to believe his disdain for the GOP had been longstanding. It wasn't an insult or anything, I was just wondering.

If the poll isn't state by state IMO its irrelevant.

At least I know one thing, Kentucky will be big for McCain.

Curious...what makes you think so? Donations to Obama's campaign are much greater in Kentucky than those to McCain's by Kentuckians. I know it's not a poll, but it must indicate strong support in Kentucky, right?

The state of Kentucky always is a strong Red state, there is no reason that's going to change this year.
