July 2, 200818 yr I think the Spurs would have been in the finals this year had they had Maggette, whether they would have won or not is a different story.
July 2, 200818 yr Author Warriors offer Max Deal for Brand.. Maggette opts out of contract with Clips...Could end up in Phili. Maybe S.A. out west. Orlando wants him & so does Cleveland & Boston. July 2, 200818 yr Author Elbow to chest cuts Beasley's first practice short http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3470943 MIAMI -- Michael Beasley's first official practice with the Miami Heat ended quickly. Beasley was struck in the chest by an inadvertent elbow during a defensive drill about 45 minutes into Miami's first summer-league workout session Wednesday, and the No. 2 overall pick in last week's NBA draft was taken to a doctor for observation. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said the move was strictly precautionary and should not affect Beasley's availability for Miami's five-games-in-five-days run through the Orlando summer league, which opens Monday.
July 9, 200818 yr http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3478921 Magic reportedly lure Pietrus away from Warriors ESPN.com news services Updated: July 8, 2008, 8:24 PM ET The Orlando Magic were rumored to be in the mix for free agent Corey Maggette, but it appears they've gone in a different direction. Mickael Pietrus Pietrus Florida Today reported on Tuesday that the Magic have reached a verbal agreement with free-agent swingman Mickael Pietrus, who played for the Golden State Warriors last season. Orlando general manager Otis Smith told the newspaper that the five-year veteran will receive almost all of the Magic's midlevel exception, which starts at $5.2 million next season. The team is expected to sign Pietrus to a multiyear contract on Wednesday. Besides passing on Maggette, the Magic appear to have closed the door on retaining their own guard Keyon Dooling. Smith said that Pietrus' ability to defend opponents' shooting guards sets him apart. "In the Eastern Conference you had better be able to defend that position," he said, according to the newspaper. "We think he can really help us do that. And he can shoot the 3." Pietrus averaged 7.2 points and 3.7 rebounds last season. Those numbers were off his career highs of 11.1 and 4.5 in 2006-07.
July 9, 200818 yr Author Sources: Brand tells Sixers he'll take their offer http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3479059 The Philadelphia 76ers have apparently won the Elton Brand free-agent sweepstakes. NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com on Tuesday that Brand has informed the Sixers that he will accept a five-year deal worth an estimated $82 million and spurn what was presumed to be a slam-dunk return to the Los Angeles Clippers to hook up with Clipper-to-be Baron Davis. The Sixers cannot formally sign Brand before midnight, with Wednesday serving as the first day that NBA teams can officially complete signings and trades after the lifting of a leaguewide moratorium which began July 1. But Philadelphia has secured Brand's verbal commitment, sources said, after first reaching an agreement in principle with the Minnesota Timberwolves on a trade that, according to sources, will send Sixers forward Rodney Carney, center Calvin Booth and a future first-round pick to the Wolves without Philadelphia having to take back any salary. The Associated Press reported on Tuesday that the Sixers will receive a future second-round pick in return.
July 9, 200818 yr I really hope Maggette signs with the Spurs....I'm hearing he's interested in them the most but that Boston and Orlando are right in there as well.
July 9, 200818 yr http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3479117 With Brand out of picture, Warriors reach verbal agreement with Maggette By Marc Stein ESPN.com (Archive) Updated: July 8, 2008, 9:18 PM ET The Golden State Warriors on Tuesday conceded defeat in the chase for Elton Brand's signature by quickly moving on to new targets and reaching a faster-than-expected verbal agreement to sign unrestricted free agent Corey Maggette, according to NBA front-office sources. Sources told ESPN.com that Maggette decided against waiting to see if the Los Angeles Clippers would lose Brand to the Philadelphia 76ers -- which could have created an opportunity to stay with the Clippers -- to take a multi-year offer from the Warriors at a starting salary above the mid-level exception, which is expected to approach $6 million. Corey Maggette Maggette Small Forward Los Angeles Clippers Profile 2008 Season Stats GM PPG RPG APG FG% FT% 70 22.1 5.6 2.7 .458 .812 The Warriors and Clippers are two of the few teams with salary-cap space to spend on free agents above the mid-level, along with Memphis. Philadelphia was on that list before reaching a verbal agreement Tuesday to sign Elton Brand away from the Clippers. Golden State responded to the loss of Baron Davis to the Clippers by offering Brand a five-year deal worth an estimated $90 million, but the Warriors never came as close to luring Brand away from L.A. as the Sixers. Maggette drew serious interest from several top contenders who are over the cap and only had the mid-level exception to offer, including Boston, San Antonio, Detroit, Utah, Cleveland and Orlando. It was presumed that Maggette was leaning toward signing with the Spurs if he couldn't secure an offer from a team with cap space. The Clippers, sources said, expected to respond to the departures of Brand and Maggette by making a hard run at Atlanta Hawks restricted free agent Josh Smith, who was Philadelphia's No. 2 target behind Brand. If the Clippers elect to sign Smith to an offer sheet, Atlanta would have seven days to match.

I wouldn't wanna seem him with the Spurs...out of those three options I would have liked Orlando...but I guess with ^ post it won't happen.
July 9, 200818 yr Author Kurt Thomas Eyes Return to Spurs http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/basketball/nba/spurs/stories/MYSA070808.1Dspurs-thomas.en.41a2404.html Kurt Thomas spent four months in San Antonio last season, just long enough to determine he'd like to come back for a second tour of duty with the Spurs. Thomas also has been around the business of the NBA long enough to know he'd be best served to look around a bit before committing to that desire in writing. The Spurs have long held interest in re-signing the veteran forward, a desire that only became intensified when former first-round pick Tiago Splitter opted to remain in Spain. Acquired from Seattle in a trade last February, Thomas started 17 games at center for the Spurs, providing much-needed spurts of rebounding and interior defense. He averaged 6.3 points and 7.2 rebounds split between the Spurs and SuperSonics.
July 9, 200818 yr The Spurs could have offered Maggette just under $6 million and a better chance at a Championship IMO. Stinks that he chose the Warriors instead.
July 9, 200818 yr Author Sixers should be pretty good next year if he is back to himself. Not really...They have an average Andre Miller who was the leading score for the 6ers averaging 15 PPG. Him & AI#2 are as good as it gets with that team. Rookie Marreese Speights may help out down low but that has yet to be seen. Anywho, I just don't see that team being pretty good even with Brand.

If you have Brand, Miller, and AI#2 then they will be a pretty good team..Considering they made the playoffs last year as the 7 seed and almost beat Detroit I think they'll be better this year with Brand. He adds scoring and an inside presence which will help in trying to get Dalembaret (sp?) some easy looks.
