He's a restricted free agent, meaning that other teams can make offers, but the Lakers have the right to match the offer and keep him. As opposed to a true free agent who can go wherever he wants regardless of how much his current team is willing to pay.
July 11, 200818 yr Turiaf will end up siging with the Warriors for 17 Mil over 4 years. No way the Lakers match that. I like him and am happy to see him get paid like that. He is a great story. :thumb: I was hoping the Lakers would be able to keep him around.

Yeah offer sheets are for restricted FA's. Basically signing with a new team but your old team can match that offer. Elton Brand did it about 4 or 5 years ago..He signed an offer sheet with the Heat I do believe, but the Clippers matched it.
July 11, 200818 yr I would take Artest over Odom any day! Based solely on ability on the court, it's a no-brainer. But, you've always got Artest's past in the back of your mind. You'd always have to feel there would be risk of a blowup. He's been quiet since arriving in Sacramento, so I'd feel relatively safe about him. I'd love to see the Lakers swap Odom for Artest. Artest would bring them the attitude they need to win a championship. He plays really tough, physical defense. And, he's a better player than Odom. He'd give them a player who could defend an opponent's 2 or 3...guys like Ginobli or Pierce.
July 11, 200818 yr Id love to have Artest but you gotta keep Odom. Artest might be more of a problem and a distraction than anything. Don't want to take a chance on destroying what looks to be another great season next year. With a heathy Bynum LA might not need Artest to win the title. I meant to reply to GT not myself :lol:
July 11, 200818 yr Author Odom = Offense/Good Teammate Artest = Defense/Energy/Used to have baggage but that looks to be in the past. Phil would get Artest to play to the best of his ability. I take Artest.
July 12, 200818 yr How has Artest been playing for the Kings? I don't think I saw one of their games this season.
July 12, 200818 yr I think LA will go after Artest but once the season starts I could see there being a lot of tension about mid way through...Who knows though!
July 12, 200818 yr There is definitely a big risk with getting Artest. He could be a chemistry killer or a huge part of a potential Lakers dynasty.
