Cooper is a new high school opening in August 2008, joining Boone Co., Ryle and Conner high schools in the Boone Co. school district, playing all varsity sports in the first year. Most of the students attending Cooper are transfers from Conner or Ryle. Their head coach is Randy Borchers, formerly of Ludlow. I believe any student who will be a senior at the other Boone Co. schools has a choice to remain at their current school and graduate, or transfer to Cooper. I would imagine most will stay, so Cooper will have very few seniors in year #1 of their sports programs. The football players going to Cooper have been working out in the off season with their old school teams. The Cooper Jaguars will be in 6A football their first season, moving down to 5A after next year's realignment.

Mu understanding is that Cooper will remain a 6A school in 09/10. From what I was told, the KHSAA recently decided that Cooper should remain a 6A school. I assume that such was based on their best guess that Cooper will be a 6A school by then and the fact that they are playing in 6A in 08.

If the coaches past history is to tell us anything you should expect to see a spread offense where the QB throws about 35 to 40 times a game and a minimal running game. From what I'm told the coach is more of a defensive side of the line guy (very debatable). who took his offense from the previous coach at Ludlow, Steve Hensley. Watching the development of the Cooper program under Coach Borchers should be very interesting the next few years.

The offense may very well be appealing, just not sure about some of the other stuff that comes with it.:ylsuper::ylsuper:

Copper did "Decent" there second 7 on 7 tourny. They came out with a lot more energy and they played like a team. Ther Defense did look alot better. They came up with a few picks from Cody Johnson, Tommy Earsing, Austin Hetzull, James Utz, Matt Rudd, And Ryan Klutie. On the Offense side Tj Bates had 3 TD's, Earsing, Hetzull, and Brett Barry had a nice few grabs as well. There undersized and yuong and they may have some "Growing Pains" along the way.

Matt Rudd's dad is Jim Rudd. I do not know the Utz's kids dad name.

Does Wilafong play for Newport? and who else would be considered Newport's top players? I know Wilafong is good and saw most the action at running back I beleive. But I am just curious about the other players

Wilfong graduated this year.

What about Arkansas Brewer? Is he going to play? (is he still at Newport?)

Brewer was not at practice, we will see after the dead period if he shows up or if he will even be at Newport at all this year.
