All these pats on the back??? Whats this hold your head high crap? The better teams lost (X & T) We let a team, that both should have squashed slip through, for no other reason then sloppy arrogance. I hope both teams learn from this & not take anyone for granted next year.

 

First of all, I think its crap that you are even saying that, and that is a total slap in the face too CAL. Maybe you weren't at the game, but CAL came out and swung the bat, played defense, and pitched well. St. X came out swung the bat fairly well, played defense and with the exception of one inning pitched well. St. X made one error that did not cost them anything. I don't know about the Trinity game as far as defense, but Trinity swung the bat well. They had a ton of hard hit balls, just so happens they hit a lot right at people. CAL is not this little league team that you or anyone else thinks they are. Beating 2 powerhouse teams on two consecutive nights and making it though the 7th region is not a fluke. In a best of 3 series with CAL against X or the Rocks, I would say X/T would win most of the time. But that is the glory of one and done, its anyone's tournament. Your comment is definitely an insult to CAL, X, and Trinity.

Maybe I should clarify my “Amen.” I do not think, necessarily, that the underlying reason for St. X’s loss to CAL is “just” sloppy arrogance; but the better team did not win. Player to player St. X was superior to CAL. Maybe some arrogance lies in possibly thinking that “the way we do things is the only way to do it.” Maybe there’s “ignorance,” meaning that we may not know any better (but should). Sometimes the better team loses in one game match-ups. It can happen, but in this case it shouldn’t have. Evaluation in the off-season needs to find better ways to avoid this pitfall.

I disagree!! It was a fluke!! It was intended to be a slap to all. Sometimes a slap is whats needed to wake people up. As I stated in my final sentence, I hope we learn from our mistakes & make the necessary corrections to prevent history from repeating itself.

It's actually Christian Academy of Louisville (CAL) CAL actually has several different campuses that they manage. The baseball team comes from the English Station campus which is elementary through high school. There is also CAL-Rock Creek (an elementary school where the entire school used to be); CAI (Christian Academy of Indiana--the former Graceland Christian School); and CAL-Southwest (which is currently through 10th grade and adding a grade each year). Each campus field their own athletic teams.

 

That English Station campus is very nice. There is a field for every sport. So a football, soccer and a field hockey game can all be played at the same time. I think Male is the only other school like that. The private schools generally have one nice field that all sports share.

 

BTW, CAL's coach is a St X grad. :irked:

Hey, sometimes the better team doesn't win. I've heard that before. I guess the question is, isn't CAL better than X and T because they won? Be careful how you answer because you can't have it both ways.

They were the better team on those two successive nights. They did what they had to do to have a shot and win. Plus played flawless defense (with the exception of a few throwing errors in the T game.)

Most, if not all of CAL's players would not have made Trinity or St. Xavier's team. It was the "perfect storm" combining the slower than usual pitching and the excellence shown in moving runners and timely hitting by the Centurions. A timely wild pitch, a walk, a HBP, an error.....the Centurions took advantage of their opportunity.

I'm sure Mr. Gray taught "little" ball to his players. I understand from one of the parents that he taught a starting pitcher to throw sidearm just last year. I would have to state that he got the most out of his players during this playoff run.

 

Again, it will be interesting to see how well the bunting game works on grass instead of synthetic surface.

When you say the "bunting game", how many bunts are you talking about? I was going to the X-Cal game, but in my 'arrogance' I didn't thinking I'd catch the next game!
