If you don't believe that, well... Some really don't care about the W-L record. If they did, they would realize this team is still a fer piece from fielding a championship caliber team. Bruce is a nice step in the right direction though.

Jair Jurrjens (5-3, 2.86 ERA) gave up three runs in a season-low 4 2-3 innings of the Braves’ 7-3 win over Brandon Webb and Arizona on Monday. He threw 97 pitches and was bothered by blisters on his pitching hand. Josh Fogg (1-2, 9.00), who signed a $1.5 million, one-year deal in February to fill out Cincinnati’s rotation, was demoted to the bullpen after going 1-2 with a 13.09 ERA in three starts. He has allowed nine runs in 14 innings in seven relief appearances. “I’ve always had a pretty resilient arm,” Fogg said. “I don’t think I’ll throw 115 pitches, but I’ll try to be efficient to stay out there as long as I can.” Fogg is 1-2 with a 5.13 ERA in six career appearances—five starts— against the Braves. May 31, 200818 yr I am completely appalled that the Reds did not win this game in the 8th inning. Here's the scenario: Bottom of 8, tied 2-2. Hairston Jr., Bruce & Griffey Jr (1,2 & 3) due up. Hairston draws a walk to lead off the inning. Let's recap thus far: Hairston Jr. on 1st - no outs - bottom of the 8th inning. Heart of the order due up. Bruce gets the sign to bunt. It's obvious he is lost up there attempting to bunt (not as bad as Edwin, but still obvious). Bruce fouls the bunt off. Next pitch, he swings at a hanging breaking ball and pops one foul to Chipper Jones. Bad AB by Bruce, but the kid has been in the MLB for a few days and although it's frustrating, I understand. Regardless, you've got to put the ball in play. It shouldn't matter though, as you have an all-time great hitting behind you. I'll actually stop here. I don't even want to talk about Griffey not laying down a bunt. I don't care who you are and how many home runs you have hit, if you aren't willing to sacrifice yourself for the betterment of the team (and a win), then I don't want you on my team. I agree about Bruce not making two bunt attempts there, but I think you'd be hard-pressed to find many MLB managers who would have had their 3 hole hitter lay down a bunt with one out in that situation. Now if you want to question why in the world Griffey is even hitting in the 3 slot . . . :mad:

May 31, 200818 yr I agree about Bruce not making two bunt attempts there, but I think you'd be hard-pressed to find many MLB managers who would have had their 3 hole hitter lay down a bunt with one out in that situation. Now if you want to question why in the world Griffey is even hitting in the 3 slot . . . :mad: Why does it matter if it is your #3 hitter laying down a bunt or not? The Braves had the shift on every time that Griffey was up - some more severe than others. But he could have bunted for a base hit each time up - especially in the 8th inning. It does not matter to me who is up. You do what you have to do to win, and Griffey should have bunted. I don't care if he's hitting leadoff, 3rd, 4th, 8th or 9th. That's a bunting situation to give your team an advantage - especially when it wouldn't even cost you an out! FWIW, Griffey is hitting .244. Maybe it's just me, but I'm sick of people making excuses. That game should have never gone into extra innings.

With that said, teams still respect him (especially during his chase for 600) and many teams have been intentionally walking him. But if he isn't going to do what we need him to do to win ballgames, then put somebody else in there. While I completely agree with you on Griffey bunting... That's just not the way things are done in the majors. I agree it shouldn't matter where he bats in the lineup, but they are right... No manager in the majors has their 3 hitter bunt. It's just the way it is I guess. That's why you might as well have gone to Champion Windows Field and watched the High School kids.
