In an odd sort of way, I wonder if the incease price of gas is a good thing? We have really started reevaluating our necessities. Ideas such as carpooling, walking five minutes to pick up a newspaper, driving less, eating more at home, etc. Are these things we should have been doing for years and could a lot of our past habits be why we are where we are today?

I don't think there's any question that's the case. Our highway system doesn't help matters any, especially when coupled with municipalities' past aversion toward forward-thinking projects such as mass transit.

Here is the way I look at it. For 10 gallons of gas at $3, you pay a total of $30. For 10 gallons of gas at $4, you pay a total of $40. That is a difference of $10, that I could be WASTING for 2 days of lunch at Wendy's or some other fast food restaurant. I am fine with eating a sandwich from home a couple days of the week. It really isn't tha big of a difference! It just gives us all something to complain about!

I guess it impacts us all differently. I think it depends on what you consider to be a significant impact. For me, that $10 is significant. $10 a fill-up could add up easily to $40-$80 per month. That's a lot of money to me. But, I can see where it wouldn't be a lot of money to someone else. I use that extra money to send to my son to help him with college expenses. He has a job, but with school and his internship, he's not able to work very much. Plus, I need him to concentrate on his grades, as his scholarship depends on that. No scholarship, can't go to school @ UE.

It is not necessarily the money you spend at the pump as much as the effect it is having on other commodities or services.

I started riding my bike last summer to do errands. I will start riding my bike to work as soon as school is out. Right now I can't ride it because I have to drive the kids to school. We have also bought some clippers and started doing haircuts at home. Eating out less, too.

 

I have an SUV that I have to keep because I pull a trailer and a boat with it so I thought about buying a small car to drive around town, but by the time I figured the cost of the car, plus the additional insurance cost, plus tags and license fee, I am just as well off driving the SUV and paying the extra for gas.

 

We have talked to our boating friends about "boat-pooling" this summer. We used to all go out on our boats and end up on the same beach. Now we're thinking we will just load up a couple of boats chip in on gas and go.

 

Groceries are really getting exspensive. Milk and bread are high, and I can't believe the price of eggs. A year ago you could buy the 18 count for 1.59 now they are 2.89.

 

I am using coupons more on groceries and at restaurants.

Went out an bought a new Siverado Crew Cab. Paid cash for the truck and applied for a load to keep it gassed up.
