I agree with the strengthing of the dollar. Do we know how we strengthen the dollar, and are we ready to bite that bullet?

What about the sudden surge in the price of crude brought about not by shortages, but by speculation? I'm not a fan of government interferrence into any business but in this case their seems to be no free market competition to bring the price down or even stabilize it. It is as if it soley at the whim of various speculators and traders.

I agree with this 100%. Production and OPEC quotas have not changed. This price is up partially due to the speculators in the commodities markets. I do not have a solution because I and fundamentally against government intervention in business and do not see how the market will correct.

Weak US dollar doesn't help much either.

I'm pretty sure its not our govenrment writing checks on the Chinese won. :irked:

Stop cutting rates is one way. That has driven gas up a dollar alone.

Pretty sure the gov't sets the lending rate. Pretty sure the gov't decides on how much money to put into the economy. ie; stimulus check.

Someone gets it:thumb:

Strengthening the dollar would help many things including gas prices.

Also mandating higher MPG standards for all vehicles, opening areas to new drilling, encourage the creation of new technology industries to improve solar, wind, battery, and nuclear power. Build new refineries will get more usable fuel from a barrel of oil. We need our leaders to be bold, moon landing type bond. Something like – We will be energy independent from forging oil by 2015. By the way a statement like this OPEC would probably open up the wells and flood the market with oil.

Would it help all that much given our limited refining capabilities?

While I think that JFK is greatly overrated overall as a president, his pledge to have the US land a man on the moon by the end of the decade was a prime example of the kind of leadership that is needed in a president.

I do not see a leader of the caliber of Reagan or Kennedy in our federal government an certainly not among the candidates running for president. What we are stuck with is a group of political cowards who expect us to believe that taxes and a lawsuit against OPEC is our gateway to energy independence.

The stimulus checks won't strengthen the dollar. They make it weaker because the money was primarily borrowed from the Chinese.

Some how we are agreeing. Low rates and flooding the economy with money weaken the dollar. Rates may have to go to double digits for a correction.

Agreed. Too many politicians care too much about the most current polling data and are short sided with out seeing the big picture.

We need leadership who can guild with a telescope to search the horizon versus using a microscope.
