Perhaps a 'super duper' district would allow the winner to bypass the regional and play other 'super duper' winners in play-in games to get into the state tournament.

The answer is to move the 14th region's Jenkins into the 15th region. It's only about a 30 minute drive from Jenkins to Pikeville, so they're probably closer to more 15th region schools than they are to 14th region schools.The district Jenkin's is in, the 53rd, has 5 teams--Jenkins, Knott Central. Letcher Central, Cordia, and June Buchanan. Moving them to the 15th would solve this problem. Just an opinion.

You're right on target with this statement. These two schools have trouble in most years rounding up enough players for a starting lineup.

One of the coaches/administrators interviewed talked about all the good teams that have been upset in the semifinals of district tournaments through the years, as if that makes it OK to create this monstrosity. What about the other 15 regions?

 

How the same Board of Control members who protect the Sweet Sixteen due to its tradition could create such a mess as this, which is clearly letting one region play by different rules than the other 15, is the most shocking decision I've seen in high school athletics in Kentucky.

 

 

That is a terrible reason from one of the coaches/administrators. That is why it is called March Madness, because anything can happen. They want to prevent the so called good teams from not getting in the region?

 

Somebody made a good point. You might as well let Bryan Station or Scott Co. in the State Tournament. It wasn't fair that they got beat in the regional tournament and they were 2 of the top teams in the state...

This way your top 2 teams will be seeded opposite each other every year. What would be the problem with this, other than it ties up 15 games on your schedule. That still leaves a team 8 dates to play tournaments or rival games with other regions. This would be entirely fair for every region and a team would have to win 4 games to advance to state tournament. Great idea, I should get a patten on this before the khsaa steals my idea.

And good teams are possible wasting 6-8 games in regions that are very weak, not to mention that you would see an end to a lot of tourney's.

 

All the consolidations are done in Eastern Kentucky with the new Harlan County school, unless Floyd County does some or some Independents are absorbed(I don't see that happening.) Why not adjust it right.

The ideal setup of 64, 4-team districts would require a total of 256 schools in Kentucky to have teams. It looks to me like it will be a while before the state drops below that number. Therefore...NO NEED FOR SUPER-DISTRICTS!

The only potential problem with your plan is the up-in-the-air status of June Buchanan. Otherwise, you're spot on.

Some of the 15th would welcome other schools, but most will not.

 

Jenkins doesn't want to move because they feel they would never make a regional against Pikeville, East Ridge, and Shelby Valley.

 

The Floyd County schools do not want to break up the "Floyd County Conference"

Isn't the KHSAA in charge? Did the other 15 regions (with membership just as important as the 15th) have a say in this? Do they even know? Is all of this a step towards eliminating districts? Is class basketball perhaps on the horizon?

12th has 17 teams

 

13th has I think 16 now

 

14th has 17 teams with June Buchanan

 

15th has 15 not counting Piarist or David

 

16th has 16 teams

 

There could be some shifting with out much travel concerns.

KHSAA is a joke an we all know that.

 

On the last part, unfortunately I believe DeVries(sp?) has her eyes set on this, as she has the "every kid should get a trophy" disease.
