The 13th has 17 teams now. They had 19 and eliminated three and added one. The Laurels are supposed to add a school down the line, and Rockcastle could always move back if needed.

What just floors me about this is the KHSAA's inflexibility with the five-team 57th District. Why can't Sheldon Clark move to the 60th District with Belfry, Phelps and Pike Central and Piarist be placed in the 59th District, giving that district five teams (with David and Piarist being iffy)?

 

That could work for a year or two until some more shifting can be done with the mountain regions.

If it's too complicated, Westsider and I can realign it over lunch.

I realize the Floyd County Board of Education may have a complaint or two, but that's tough ... other county systems have already been broken up (Laurel, Pulaski and Kenton immediately come to mind) into separate districts and/or regions, so they can deal with it, too.

 

I originally had East Ridge and Betsy Layne switched, but judging from my road atlas, this arrangement may make more sense.

The 10th would love that.

 

There are several options. A few teams need to shift, especially from northern Kentucky. The Bullitt schools could also move out of the 6th Region with Jefferson still having at least 16 teams in each region the last time I looked. Perhaps one more major overhaul in a couple of years could fix it.

Consistency is lacking in who can dictate moves and who can't. The 52nd was stuck with six teams and told to live with it for three years, and Sheldon Clark gets to stay in a five-team district instead of shifting to create a four-team district because they don't want to break up traditional rivalries.

 

Piarist is still trying to have a team. I think David is done.

No freaking doubt.

 

Caldwell County was forced, kicking and screaming all the way, to move from the 5th District to the 7th District to give the 7th a fourth team. Until Caldwell was removed, the 5th was a five-school district (all small schools) that had been intact for 40-plus years.

 

And Sheldon Clark gets to stay put in the interest of "traditional rivalries" ... the inconsistency is troubling, to say the least.

KHSAA wanted this, approached Pike Super. and AD with a certain State Representative and said some transfers in the county would be ruled eligible if this plan was adopted. Just so happens the State Rep.'s daughter attends the school that benefit from the transfer.................

Seriously? Unbelievable. Why not just make the state tournament open to fifteen teams and then let one Pike County team automatically make it to Rupp.

KHSAA wants to go to Super-Districts in certain areas like Lex. and Louisville. They needed a guinea pig for a 1 year tryout. Enter Pike County and their 2 3-team districts.

 

There is some elections in Pike County coming in Nov. for some BOE members, so look at the pattern.

 

East Ridge (their turn to host the 59th) is getting to host the girls "Super-District", and Pike Central is getting the boys "Super-District" skipping Belfry (their turn to host the 60th). Guess who is up for re-election? Those 2 BOE members.

 

Another Pike County school gets 2-3 transfers for the girls basketball program, just so happens State Reps daughter plays there.........and has pull with Pike Superintendent and Athletic Director......transfers might not get eligible..............BOE member is up for re-election in Nov. also...........
