There is a 5 teams district right now in the 57th, the 2 Pike Co. districts purposed -

 

Sheldon Clark moved from the 57th to the 60th since the 57th is a 5 team district and Jenkins moved from the 14th region to the 59th.

 

Magoffin moved from the 57th to the 58th and a Floyd County(Betsy Layne) team moved to the 60th and Jenkins to the 59th

 

 

All was a no go and this is the cluster your left with.

 

Question is does the "Super-District" get 2 #1 seeds?

I'm pretty sure all the Pike County coaches want 2 4 team districts and not have to waste games on David and Piarist.

 

There is a lot of people to blame for this but the coaches in Pike County are definitely not the ones

I just spoke with the KHSAA and the move is official.

There were complaints then. We had 19 teams in our region, so I doubt a three-district setup would have worked unless we wanted 14 teams in the regional.

 

There's no logical reason for changing the organization pattern of regions for 60 or more years to protect one or two teams.

I do not like this setup but what I am asking is "Did anyone try to do anything other than accept the fact that you had to play the District as it is? Or did anyone suggest anything different & if so what were you told by KHSAA or others?

Question 1 - Yes, a petition asking for two five-team districts instead of one with six and one with four was submitted.

Question 2 - We were told to live with it until the new school opened. If this were Pike County, we could have had four teams in the regional instead of two. Who would have thought to ask for that?

 

It is, indeed, the craziest thing I've ever seen in Kentucky high school basketball. How could this have been discussed with a straight face? What's the point of messing up the entire organizational pattern of high school basketball to avoid moving two teams from different districts.

Utterly ridiculous ... now, there will be teams in the 57th and 58th districts that lose in the semifinals and still advance to the regional tournament. No other district in the state has that privilege ... why should different rules apply to one little corner of the state?

When LC came into the region, Sheldon Clark was supposed to move into the 60th with Piarist and David going to the 59th. SC whined and cried about tradition and whatever so the KHSAA did not make them move.

One of the coaches/administrators interviewed talked about all the good teams that have been upset in the semifinals of district tournaments through the years, as if that makes it OK to create this monstrosity. What about the other 15 regions?

 

How the same Board of Control members who protect the Sweet Sixteen due to its tradition could create such a mess as this, which is clearly letting one region play by different rules than the other 15, is the most shocking decision I've seen in high school athletics in Kentucky.

The new format allows two extra participants from the 11th region, whose ardent supporters have whined for years that it's unfair for 11th region powerhouses to be left on the outside looking in, while those undeserving teams from the Mountains and the Purchase area get to play.
