Eric Ely was a good player, but his Bell team could not get by the tigers of Clay. I remember Clay beat Bell at Cawood in 01 and Bell was loaded with talent. That Bell team may have been the most talented 13th region squad in the last 10 years.

 

Poor Coach Whitaker! He never could get over the hump could he?

 

I remember watching that game. Asher from Clay was a power inside. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he had 20+ rebounds in either the semis or the finals.

 

I know what you guys mean. There was really no excuse for that Bell team to not make it to state and make some noise other than coaching. Whitaker ran that team 10-12 deep all year and ran teams out of the gym, then when the postseason came around he shortened the bench and struggled more than they should have. No excuse for 13 talented juniors and seniors to get beat by that Clay team other than coaching. He always seemed to tighten up in the postseason.

That team was loaded! The 1st 5 was very athletic and big and the 2nd 5 could have combined with some decent subs to be a top 5 team in the region easily IMO.

:thumb: Clay beat a very good Cawood team at home and a Bell team that had top 10 talent in the state that season. I think great coaching was the key that year. Clay was the 3rd best team in the region that season based on talent.

Mark Hyden, Josh Brock, Jarrod Lawson, and Brad Lawson all came to Corbin from Whitley County.

How about Joe "The Show" Siler? Seems like he danced around at a few different schools in his day.

Mark Hyden could play the post/forward position as good as any for his size. He was a lot like the Sipple kid who played for Corbin in the early 90's.

I know what the post says. When you start talking about 2 of the best that played at any school, I think my point is justified.

 

 

I didn't realize you had a point. What is your point? I think it's fairly obvious that Thomas and McDavid both wanted to play football in high school. Rose Hill couldn't offer them that opportunity. What would you have suggested they do?

When you consider that McDavid and Thomas are both playing football at the college level, it would appear that the move to a school that has a football program was well founded.
