A person or company should pay taxes based on the amount of the country's wealth they control.

Don't you think that is a bit difficult to compute? And, who pays the huge taxes, the CEO who makes $600,000, or the tons of stockholders?

The tax should be high enough to wipe out any disparity between what they make as a result of continuing education, financial skills, hard work, risk taking, or design skills and my salary for taking the easy way and avoiding risks without exploiting my meager abilities.

Heck, they probably all just got lucky or inherited it anyway. :fire:

(I really wish we had a tongue-in-cheek emoticon.)

Neither. The taxes are past on to the consumers of their products. :irked:

Flat Tax, Flat Tax, Flat Tax, everyone gets tax 15% Federal, Everyone get 15% sales tax and 10% income state tax. No loop holes, even those on a check pays, the middle pays, the high pays. Buisnesses get taxed on profit by 10% before shareholders get their profits. Anyone that does not pay, first property taken no questions asked, second live on the street, third prision or shot! To me this is fair.

What say you!

At what point would a higher income individual be taxed enough to make you feel as though they were being taxed fairly?

The Liberal 1040

1. Your income....................

2. Your tax (see line 1).........

I am glad you have no say so what so ever. Do you really want to pay 15% in federal tax? Do you really want to pay 10% state on top of a 10% state sales tax?

A lot less than they pay now.

Even if each tax bracket taxed income at the same percent, the wealthy would still shell out way more than the rest of us. Should the wealthy pay the same dollar amount in taxes as the poor and middle class? Should you be taxed less as you earn more money?

I'm not much of a proponent for raising taxes for a number of reasons (although I would support it in certain instances) but it continually amazes me the zeal some approach taxation of the wealthy with, and I'm not talking about liberals.

Is that system not fair?

I pay more in Federal right now! My state tax is more than 10% however I concede that I only pay 6% sales tax.

What percentage of you income do you pay in federal tax? I paid 7% based on my adjusted gross income and 10% based on my taxable income. In state I paid just under 5%. Now you think it is ok to raise one 5% and the other 10% on top of a 4% increase in sales tax.

Spoken like a true Dem.

Thankyou that is very kind of you to say!

I think that yes it is ok to raise taxes to fund education/innovation. Absolutely, I am for the educating of the youth. I am for Universities and for scholarships so that our children can attend these schools. I am for giving benefits for those that are mentally handicapped, who can not help themselves. I am even for using that tax money to help those that have fallen off of their feet, for a short while anyway. I am for better roads in this state. I am for jails, police officers, firefighters, garbage men and women, and any other civic duty job. Call me crazy, but I don't think that I can get any of this stuff for free, I could ask the school teacher to work for less but I will have to try to catch them, hopefully without hitting potholes, as they head for Indiana, Ohio, and Missouri. I can ask the police officer to work longer with less pay, but they are too busy working or the fireman, garbage and so forth.

I am for everyone paying a flat tax that everyone has to pay, no loop holes, no nothing, which would probably destroy the IRS. Is that a crazy idea or what, to actually think everyone would have to pay an exact same fee for a service... man I glad the cable company doesn't do that, well maybe they do, well how about Pizza Hut, nope they do as well. What was I thinking?

With a flat tax rate did I take away any inncentive to try to earn more money? No, as my friend has pointed out, with running those figures, he or she would try to "earn extra income" to make up that difference. Therefore, means more education, more experience, more of the qualities that employers are looking for, which in turn means (in most cases) a better product, better innovation.

Now what the flat tax will do is create a class system, however, it is a system which people can move up or down in, without much interference from the government, which as we all know is what republicans rally behind, personal responsibility, it is up to the citizen. As far as the democrates, there would finally be a fair playing field, because, no matter what people are taxed the same. Man, who would have thought that their could be common ground in taxes with Republican, Democrate, Rich and Poor, Black and White, Men and Women!

A flat tax is one thing but to support a 10-15% tax increase on middle class leaves me speechless. You can throw around your typical Dem response (see your first paragraph) when wanting to raise taxes but as soon as you start reaching into my pocket we have a problem. Instead of fixing whats broken lets just take more money from the people.

And I love this part...

To make sure I understand this right, in order to make up the money I will lose with your brillient idea here is to go get a second job. So after I work 8 hours I get to leave my first job and go deliver pizza or stock shelves at Wal-Mart. I guess I get to see my wife and daughter for 10 mins in the morning before I have to go to my first job. This is a great plan.
