Democrats have proven that their soak the rich tax policies do not work. Voting for somebody who promises to pursue the tax policies that helped sink Jimmy Carter makes no sense. (Maybe those 70 percent marginal tax rates do some good after all.)

 

Senator Obama has promised that he will not raise taxes on the middle class with one breath, and promised to increase the capital gains taxes in another. One promise or the other (or both) promises are lies because 100 million Americans who own stocks would be impacted by an increase in the capital gains tax.

Don't see how pointing out McCain's voting record is biased. DailyKos links you right to the Senate vote count on each issue. That's facts, but I like to remember that facts seem to have a liberal bias to some.

Well, I do believe he voted against the 430 million in VA benefits because the Dems had a very large tax increase included, he voted against the GI-bill for the same reason. He voted against 1.5 billion by closing corporate loopholes because it stopped vets from using any other insurance but VA insurance.

Well, I do believe he voted against the 430 million in VA benefits because the Dems had a very large tax increase included, he voted against the GI-bill for the same reason. This particular bill may have been seen as redundant since in April the Senate had passed a larger bill. I won't fault McCain on that particular one. In the previous month he was one of on 13 Senators to vote for $400+ million for medical care for vets. Show me where there were tax increases? And show me where in the history of this nation we've had a war and lowered taxes? That was one of the stupidest things the Bush administration ever did and McSame wants to continue that bonehead policy. That's fiscal responsibility for you.

I will support any tax increase that provides medical and educational monies for those brave men and women that have served our country or who are not. By all that is right and dear, we cannot ask these people to give their lives and their bodies to protect us or promote democracy or any reason that we deem necessary to go to war and then NOT provide them with reasonable medical coverage and compensation for injuries.

 

I'm sorry - I have very strong feelings about this...but if you don't want to provide funds for this, then sign up yourself or send one of your own children to go and risk life and limb.

 

With that being said, I do not know why McCain (or any of those that voted no) did. Obviously, if their reasoning was that the money can be available through another method, then I am okay with that. I do not for the life of me believe that McCain would NOT support policy directed at improving the safety, education and livelihood of our troops, unless it be a Catch-22 situation.

It's all perspective...people see what they want to see.

If Obama really does not have a clue what effect his redistribution plan (I may start calling him Robin Hood, or even better Prince John) will have on revenue how can he even propose it unless he is just an ideological tax and spend Democrat? Either way the fact that he could not answer the question speaks volumes to me about how well thought out his proposals are.

I won't go into it very much, but there are people that I know and love that benefit greatly from a low capital gains tax, and it's frankly criminal... even if it is totally legal.

 

Let's look at some numbers, starting with that 200,000 couple from the debate. That would place the household earnings in the top 4% in the nation; real middle class, huh. The top 50 hedge fund managers last year earned more than 29 BILLION dollars, and at the current 15% rate paid the same percentage in taxes than people who earned over $8,026.

 

You can all me a class warrior if you want (I'm not, my communist friends call me a capitalist pig dog) but there has to be some sense of balance and fairness in the tax code.
