Elliott is hands down the favorite! They return Ferguson, both of the Faulkners and the Knipps!

 

 

Don't they have to actually win the region first? I believe they were the "hands down favorite" last year, but didn't quite make the party? If they make the show this time, I agree they should be one of the favorites.

What about Calvary Christian next year in the 10th? They had a nice team this year and lost to Brossart in the All "A" regional final. Do they return anything?

 

 

Not enough IMO. Deming might be a better choice to challenge Brossart next year, but I think this was the year to unseat the 'Stangs?

How many do they have back who actually had varsity minutes? I think it's usually a bad idea to keep 10 seniors.

 

Lets not worry about the 10 seniors at this point, the past is the past, remember we are talking about 2009. Actually it is mute point to talk about the amount of significant varsity minutes that any of the underclassman had in 2008. It is my understanding that their JV and Freshman team was pretty competitive with other 12th Region opponents. They will be ready.

Elliott County would be my pick, but Hazard impressed me in the sweet sixteen, they should make a serious run at the title. I read in another thread that UHA had some new kids coming in so don't count out Coach M'Coy's bunch if that is true.

If every other 12th Region lost 10 seniors, that point might fly.

 

Thacker is a good coach, but he has his work cut out for him next year.

They'd be ineligible without moving.

 

Harlan's best player quit late in the year, and he was the only senior starting.

Too many. In all fairness though, they usually do have some pretty good talent. There is just no coach to speak of to hone that talent into a contender. If they get a coach, they could make a little noise.

 

Elgie Green could do it. Give Elgie the boys' and Debbie the girls' and Middlesboro would own the All "A" on both sides in the 13th Region.

Why would Debbie come back after leaving just a few years ago? You are giving Elgie A LOT of credit too.

Four best teams have to be Elliott County, Bardstown, Hazard, and Shelby Valley in no particular order. Elliott should have a little extra motivation as they have not done well in the All A the last two years. Lost to Paintsville by 7 points in the 1st round at EKU in 2007 and last year got beat by Rose Hill in the Region S/F. University Heights is also an unknown. They may bring in two 6'8" Australian/Nigerian/Norwegian/or from anywhere kids we never heard of.

 

If they expand to 125 teams then I don't know what top teams become eligible?? Somebody mentioned DeSales, but I'm sure some other top teams would come into the mix.

Can anyone confirm if they went to the top 125 or not? I think that changes things considerably. Desales would be in, Christian Academy of Louisville would be in, who else??? Just adding Desales and CAL make it a better tourney.

At the risk of facing the wrath of Bubba, isn't Lynn Camp a tad inconsistent, too?

 

Respect your knowledge of all the teams in the region. However, over the last 4 years Lynn Camp has an average of 16 wins per season. Plus, they have been to the region 2 out of 4 years. This year they got to the semifinals of the region that's the farthest they have been in school history. Granted a lot of schools have accomplished far more. However, those stats are not to bad or that inconsistent for an "All A" school that has only reached the region 5 times in its history. :thumb:

There's little doubt in my mind that the top four contenders for next year appear to be Elliott County, Hazard, Shelby Valley and Bardstown.

 

Is Corbin in the All A Classic next year? If so, they could be on the list, too.

Corbin has close to 750 kids in the high school this year, which I'm sure puts them well over the limit. Unless something unexpected occurs, Corbin will not qualify for the All A again due to the growth within the system.

Lynn Camp has definitely had some big wins the past few seasons, and Pennington has done a good job of putting some enthusiasm and pride in the program.

I have no doubt, however, that if Middlesboro played Lynn Camp's schedule the past four seasons they would have won just as many games, if not more. I think you know that, too.
