Why Is Dicky V In The Hall Of Fame?

Featured Replies

He is going in as a contributor.

If anyone really does get how he qualifies, needs to explain to me why not. He has done more to raise the awareness of the game of basketball than any other non-player I can think of.

That article reeeeeeeeks of jealousy.

I only read a little bit of the article but I didn't know you could not be inducted as an announcer, which is what I thought he was. What does as a contributor mean exactly? I don't really have a problem being inducted based on his media days, but definitely not worthy of it as a coach.

ONE of the GREATEST, if not the GREATEST ambassadors of college basketball that there is. He may be winded, but he has an unbelievable passion for the game of basketball!

I had the honor of hearing him speak one time at a coaches clinic and it was flat out amazing, he is a tremendously engaging speaker!

NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT THIS GUY IS A HALL-of-FAMER!!!!

He is the face of college basketball for YEARs.

There isn't much middle ground with Dukie V. You either love him or hate him, those that hate him don't think he deserves the Hall.

My mjor pet peeve with him is that he tells you everything you don't want to know about every major college team, except the 2 you are watching.

No way you are serious.

I personally witnessed him and his passion, for not only college basketball, but children. On a new years eve in Rupp arena, he was commentator for the game and when the game was over I watched him sign autographs and speak to EVERY child and adult who approached him. Even when he was making his way back to the Hyatt, if any group or individual approached him, he politely stopped and spoke. This went on for over an hour after the game. Never once did his expression seem frustrated or annoyed. His repore with the children was what impressed me most. He was truly patient and courteous!!!

So yes, he deserves the "Hall of Fame" for being an ambassador and gentleman and all around nice man. So be it he has a loud mouth, most times it is praise that he speaks!!!:thumb::thumb:

I say the same thing and I AM being serious. Dick Vitale is huge in college basketball.

I have always found him annoying. But I do think he is one of the best ambassadors of the game that I have ever seen. He is deserving of his nomination....

...But he's still annoying.

He should be in there, but no way he has been the face of college basketball for years.

Dick Vitale's enthusiasm and energy brought in a new audience and convinced them to watch games that they had no clue why they were watching. He deserves to be in the HOF, on this ground alone, as a contributor.

I can barely listen to Vitale anymore, but have no trouble whatsoever justifying his induction as a contributor to the game. This columnist seems to have received his orders from above, or he's just a big jerk. Don't know for sure, as I've never heard of him or read anything by him before.

:thumb: Dick Vitale has true passion for the game of "COLLEGE" basketball. Many think that when they see and hear him on a game broadcast that he is "acting", nothing could be further from the truth. This man is that passionate about the game, the coaches and most of all the kids.

Vitale's work with the Jimmy V. foundation is amazing. Yes, he can be annoying at times and is too "heavy" on Duke and UNC but I cannot help but like him. I heard him give a talk to a group of high school kids when it was aired on espn one time....NO ONE can fake caring and passion for kids like that, Viltale is the real deal. He is a P.T.P.'r baby ;)

Dick Vitale belongs in the H.O.F., no doubt about it!
