April 5, 200818 yr On wednesday nite while I was in Bible study I got a call to come to an accident that involved my wife and 10 year old son. They were leaving the 2 lane road to enter Bardstown road four lane road. She was at the light first out and got the green lite and proceeding to enter the highway when a car didn't stop and broadsided our van. I got to the scene before the EMS. What I saw has given me our worst nightmare. My son was alert and was behind the passenger seat. My wife was in shock. She was hit in her door and the side door was caved in. I was told if my son was in that seat it would have been...well I will not repeat what I was told. Jesus had him in the right seat. He was taken to Kosair's Children and her to University Hospital. I didn't know where to go first. She was hurt and I knew I wouldn't be able be with her so I followed my son. When I got to see him he was doing as well as he could be doing, but was worried about Mom. he was able to give EMS/Officers info about his Mom and how to reach me. The man who was leading my Bible study beat me to the Hospital and told me to go find Momma and he would stay with my son and even take him home. Jesus lead him to be there. She has broken ribs and spleen problem and a badly injured left side. jesus was with her. After I saw my van I was shocked. The 18 year old ran the redlight and did not even try to use her brakes. The officers told me there were several witnesses that told them that the other driver went by cars that stopped and hit our van. Speed limit is 55 MPH. Again Jesus was with my family. It is now Saturday afternoon and she just got to come home. She is so sore and the doctors said she should go home where she could rest. She is due back on monday. Our son is OK but bruised up due to the seatbelts, which did there job. I know this is long and please bear with me. I ask for prayers for everyone involved including the other person. we have been bombbarded with calls, emails, cards, and visits. There is so much more of this story of how Jesus loves us and you and how things work for his glory. Now I'll read some posts and see if I can pray for someone. I've been humbled like I ever have in my life and I see your hearts in your posts. One thing I'll add...when the light turns green, still give a quick look before you move.

I am very glad to hear that your wife and son are going to be alright, Larry. Your advice on looking before entering an intersection even when the light is green may save somebody else from going through what your family has. I have avoided several accidents by doing just that.

They were leaving the 2 lane road to enter Bardstown road four lane road. She was at the light first out and got the green lite and proceeding to enter the highway when a car didn't stop and broadsided our van. This is almost exactly what happened to my mom back in 1988. She was stopped at the light coming off the interstate at Turkeyfoot Road. The light changed and some 18 yr old girl in a jeep broadsided her on the driver's side. Fortunately, it was slightly off of the door's center, or it would have been the end. She had a jaw injury and a broken leg. I'm so glad this incident did not turn out much worse for your family! It all comes down to a matter of a split second of timing and divine providence.
April 5, 200818 yr I am so sorry to hear that this happened, but so very glad that everyone is okay. You and your son and wife will be in our prayers every day. I am glad you stayed strong as well to help them through their tough time as well as getting through it yourself. It had to be hard seeing them like that. It is scary to think that people don't pay attention while driving to the point of not noticing the light changing. I will be on top of watching after the light has changed more now. Any word on the person who hit the van?? Please keep us posted on the condition of your family as well. Hang in there.
April 5, 200818 yr Alabama Larry, I am so thankful that your family is, overall, okay. I will be praying for the quick recovery of your wife. For those of you that don't know, AL is a wonderful, caring man who finds his faith and comfort in God. Back in October one of our football players suffered a fluke injury during practice that landed him in the hospital for 16 days and ended his football career. Larry, who didn't know me or the player, made calls, put the kid on a multiple pray lists and came and visited the player in the hospital (the same hospital that his wife was taken to), raising his spirits and bringing him an athlete's bible. Larry, I know that you are too humble to to even think this, but I believe that your selfless good works please God...we know that His power of protection is infinite.
April 5, 200818 yr So glad to hear everything will be ok....Prayers with your family during their recoveries.

April 6, 200818 yr My prayers go out to you, your family, and to the other young lady. I know, when things are toughest, I feel closest to the Lord. Remember Psalms 34:17 The righteous cry out and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.
