Addicting is addicting...

Outlaw cigs, too?

Outlaw cigs, too?

Go for it...

No, thats not my argument. I'm just saying, either way, once addicted you believe you are dependent on it.

I wish they had many years ago. I'll bet you can find many current and ex-smokers who would agree with me.

Specifically for weed, yes it is harmfull. I have seen several bright young people lose all ambition at a critical learning time of their lives. It would be interesting to know the real cost to society in terms of what some of these could have accomplished.

Look, I don't know how to explain it any different than this. (And this is my feelings on alcohol, gambling, legal unions, and a myriad of other things that seem to come up from time to time). I think they are wrong. If you choose to do so and can deal with the consequences without affecting my life or those close to me, have at it. However, when you put it on a ballot to legalize it, a yes vote from me is the equivalent of an endorsement. It would be against my beliefs to do so.

Science has proven many things that have later they have proven to be wrong on.

Does one form of addiction make it less of a threat?

I have seen it ruin too many lives for it to be legalized. I would be vehemently against it.

I understand what you are trying to say, in that those smoking pot do not directly O.D. or die directly from it; but, I would assume quite a few deaths a year occur from "cloudy" judgement while being stoned.

Who cares if it is addictive? Gambling is addictive, but we do that in certain places in this country. Drinking alcohol is addictive. Drinking soda is addictive. None of those things are "good" for you. Marijuana doesn't hurt you. While it may be addictive, there are no other bad qualities...

Why not regulate it like cigarettes. Don't allow people to smoke it outside their homes, don't allow minors to use it, etc....

Tax the heck out of it...and make some money!

# An exhaustive search of the literature finds no credible reports of deaths induced by marijuana. The US Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) records instances of drug mentions in medical examiners' reports, and though marijuana is mentioned, it is usually in combination with alcohol or other drugs. Marijuana alone has not been shown to cause an overdose death.

Benson, Jr., "Marijuana and Medicine: Assessing the Science Base," Division of Neuroscience and Behavioral Research, Institute of Medicine (Washington, DC: National Academy Press, 1999), available on the web at http://www.nap.edu/html/marimed/; and US Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration, "In the Matter of Marijuana Rescheduling Petition" (Docket #86-22), September 6, 1988, p. 57.

This is all I could find. I am willing to bet that marijuana is responsible for far less deaths than alcohol and tobacco.

No doubt about it.

Would it be correct to assume that those of you who support legalization of marijuana also support use of it? Can someone venture to tell me of what use it is? (Other than isolated medical).

For those who like to declare it to be of less evil than alcohol, I would welcome any reasons given to drink also.

I would imagine that people who smoke marijuana do it for the same reasons that people who smoke ciggarettes, or drink socially, or visit casino's or strip clubs from time to time, or eat potato chips, or Pizza, or candy, or have sex, or watch TV, or do any of the thousands of things that one can do that isn't neccaserally good for you in extraneous amounts.

People do it to relax, or to socialize, or for the pleasure that it brings.

I support legalizing it because you can not ban everything. There was a reason prohibition went terribly wrong. It basically created organized crime in America. What reasons are there to ban marijuana? You want a list of reasons that we can use it? How about because some people WANT to? I would love to see a list of reasons why it shouldn't be legalized?

Go for it...

That's a little subjective, but nonetheless, your opinion. Statistics have shown that no deaths have been caused by marijuana, and has also shown be non addictive; the same could be said for anyone who decides not to take asprin anymore.

I know of to many people that just started by smoking marijuana and now they are doing cocaine or other harder drugs. I know it doesn't cause everybody to go on to harder drugs, but I wouldn't want it to be legalized.

I'm pretty sure there is no evidence that using marijuana leads to use of more dangerous drugs. Those people were probably destined to use those drugs...
