Not many facts being presented on the "keep marijuana banned" side of the argument in this thread. Only things presented for that argument in this thread are mere opinions and observations. Zero facts.

 

So personal experience and first hand comments from a pothead is not facts? Please define facts.

Who says marijuana makes one steal? That's just propaganda used against marijuana with no evidence to support the claims.

 

People can screw up their lives many other ways. If they're destined to throw their life away, they will throw their life away. Keeping marijuana illegal is not going to automatically make people stop making stupid decisions.

 

Who says people who smoke weed want to do nothing with their lives? Once again, I know plenty of people who have smoked weed that lead very productive lives.

 

The government should help people make the right decisions through proper education. Not through making decisions for them.

Part of the problem with education helping them is they are too stoned or tuned out for that happen.

Also based on your theory of making it legal and allowing them to make the proper decision, why not remove the laws on murder and see what happens.

Yes there needs to be self control, but our society has slide downhill in the 40 or so years with the overt liberal Dr. Spock type thinking.

Because I know enough about weed to know that it doesn't ruin lives. It might ruin one's day, but no one is going to go out and rob and steal to get their fix for weed.

 

Crack cocaine, powder cocaine, meth, heroin, etc...yes those can ruin lives. Marijuana...no.

And how do you know that marijuana was the sole reason that these students "wasted" their lives? You don't.

 

You know I have no clue how my cellphone works. How I speak words and they somehow invisibly travel across the country to my sister 30 minutes away. But I push the button and speak and I know it happens.

Comparing legalizing marijuana and legalizing murder is like comparing a basketball to a monkey. They're two completely different things. It reminds me of a scene from Pulp fiction. My facts are not written up in some fancy magazine, but it is still real enough that a lot of otherwise good kids are wasting their lives.

 

Yes there may be other factors that led them to pot, but that same arguement can be used for alcohol abuse, wife beating, robbing banks,etc.

Here's a study (even though people here are quick to discredit studies they know nothing about) that says Marijuana is not addictive, or a gateway drug...well it wasn't a gateway drug, until it was made illegal.

I would think stupidity and laziness contributed more than anything.

That study is flawed with my life story. I grew up with family members that did it regularly and I was offered it many, many times but never once partaked. Why? I was too scared of going to jail if I got caught.

I honestly do not believe that marijuana leads people to steal. Marijuana is simply used as an excuse for their actions.
