Didn't look as though he was hurtin' for talent this year!!

Any names?

It's been said by many in other threads, but I will say it again here; Coach L is one fine basketball coach, and an even better person.

I've known Mike for what seems like forever and I couldn't agree with you more.

Any names?

Nope, just something I heard. I don'tfollow CCH all that much so I really have no clue, that's why I asked.

I do not know of any boys who did not play this past year as you have heard. There of course are some who did not make the team who may think they were better players than some who were kept. That of course happens everywhere though.

There are players everywhere who don't play for various reasons. Some don't like the coach, some are interested in other things, some just aren't good enough.

There have been plenty of high school athletes who seem to know everything. Even worse, their parents are even smarter!

There are two different groups that have very strong complete opposite opinions of Listerman. In general, it seems that those who know him the least (casual aquaintance, student, media, etc) tend to admire him the most. Those that know him the most (players and ex-players, parents of kids who have to deal with him, guys who have sat on the bench with him) seem to come to a different conclusion. I know this is a generalization and there is some cross over, but for this to turn into a Mike Listerman love fest and pretend that he shares universal love and support is inaccurate.

That is far from a generalization. In reality, it is a false statement.

In the heat of the moment there are plenty of people who get upset with Coach Listerman (and any coach for that matter); however, I would have no problem having my son play for a guy who builds character, instills discipline & wins basketball games all at the same time.

He may not be the greatest basketball coach in the world. If we were running a program, I'm sure there are plenty of things that we would do differently. With that said, you cannot argue with the success that Mike Listerman has had on the court, nor with the success of his players (both past & present) off of the court. That, to me, speaks volumes about the character & ability of this HIGH SCHOOL basketball coach.

I agree completely.

These rumors seem to have began in the past couple of years...after the success he had in 04' in their Final Four run... Since then, CCH has had some great wins (Lex Cath. this year, a District Title last). IMO Holmes has had better basketball players starting in 05'; Holmes used to just have the better athletes.

I believe that Coach L has done a great job almost spliting with them the past two years (3-4) with lesser talent; unfortunalty they are 1-3 in tournament play.

As a former player of Coach L's I hate to see the criticism he receives because some parents believe that the reason their sons have not gone to the Final Four like the 04 team is because of the Coach. That team had a Division III (should have been All-American) 2 time All-Region and a Division I player. Could it be that the talent level has dropped in the past two seasons. One player playing backup PG in D III ball (Although Kurt Bovard had a great year).

Coaches are easy targets at the High School level because people believe it is wrong to criticize 14-18 year old kids (I believe in that also)...but don't blame one of the most successful coaches in the state. Mike's losses in the Regional tournaments recently have not come because of his new assistants, it is because his kids are not as good as the kids in the public school down the road.

I never thought Coach L was God's gift to Coaching but his record speaks for itself; some may not like his style (I was never a fan) but he is everything a CCH grad comes to admire in the way he conducts himself as a man/Colonel.

I am so glad he puts this to rest...always WASTWND

I don't think alot of the criticism he recieves has anything to do with his coaching ability.

Cov. Cath. took Holmes to overtime in the regular season this year at Holmes with Chris Bondick sitting on the bench in a cast and took Holmes to overtime in the District finals this year at Holmes. Cov. Cath. played the Bulldogs head to head through the end of the 3rd quarter in the Regional finals this year at Conner. No disrespect to the Cov. Cath. players (all of whom are hard working and gifted) but I think the Holmes squad was leaps and bounds ahead of the Colonels talent-wise. The rest of the state (save Mason County) found this to be the case last week in Lexington. Listerman's coaching has been masterful. I do not labor under the impression that Coach L. is perfect. Nevertheless, I am very greatful to him for the job he has done and the sacrifices he and his family have made. I hope the eight to ten more years turn in to ten to fifteen more years.

Isn't that what all this is about?? Where does his criticism come from then??

:confused::confused::confused:

The only opinions that matter on a subject such as this one, imo, are those of his players, past and current. None of you are they.

How do you know who is a former player and who is not?

I will say I think individuals like Lynn Ray, Bob Schneider, and Listerman, who choose to be in a private school for less money and great sacrifice are to be praised.

How was that for politically correct? :D

Just the opposite of what you state here is true. Nice try though. One last effort to tear down Coach Listerman fails again. Can't be happier for Coach Listerman and his family.
