Belisle wants to start and won't for this team and we have plenty of other middle relief options. Hatty is expendable - if Votto struggles, can put Dunner there and give Bruce his shot. Just a thought. I wouldn't call myself an expert but IMO it doesn't give you very much in return. For one Freel makes to much money Belisle a dime a dozen. Not a huge market for a sub .500 career pitcher. Hatty has a bit of value to a team trying to make a deep run in the playoffs but not for any players to will help us now.

Pretty reasonable interest in Fogg, who is exactly a .500 career pitcher (Belisle is 3 games under .500), with a higher lifetime ERA than Belisle (4.90 to 4.85) and is 4 years older than Belisle. Surely some pitching deficient club out there would have some interest in Belisle as their #4 or #5? If Hatty's only value is helping this team make a deep run in the playoffs, I'm afraid I have to question if he therefore has any real value at all. :cry:

He is a great guy to have on your team not just if you are making a deep playoff run but thats the kind of team I could see going for him. Fogg got 1 Mil from us and no one offered better or he would have taken it I am sure so I wouldn't call that reasonable intrest plus he had a great run in the playoffs.
March 23, 200818 yr I was discussing this an my initial reaction is to trade Homer, but he is only 21 years old. As Reds fans we have no right to give up on a guy with his potential and age. He has time to get his act together, no need to trade him.

Just a thought. I don't think that package would draw much in return. Most teams that need pieces like that will wait until closer to the trading deadline when they can be obtained for low minor prospects. As for Belisle starting--I wouldn't be so sure. After all that means that both Cueto and Volquez are able to hold their spots in the rotation and remain healthy. Bailey was as good or better of a prospect as either one and will now more than likely begin the season in the minors. The Reds have to have Belisle as an insurance policy, neither Cueto nor Volquez are a sure thing and a .500 pitcher is better to have in one of those spots than a struggling rookie if it comes to that.
March 23, 200818 yr Cueto could suprise alot of people this year. The only suprise he will get from me is if he gets sent back down. The way he has pitched last year in the minors and this Spring Training, I am expecting him to jump onto the scene with a bang!
March 24, 200818 yr I see Hatteberg getting traded closer to July 31, when a team who needs a veteran left-handed bat will overpay to win THIS year. I'd like for the Reds to be one of those teams who is willing to "overpay" to win this year, though.

His main problem the last couple years has been high pitch counts in a short period of time. I'm sure he'll bring it down - he has to bring it down - or he won't be around very long, and that's going to tax the bullpen."
