Kids are raising there level of play, its just he got held back two years and should be playing as a senior this upcoming year. It is no complaint by me a wonderful decision by him and his parents. But to go around flaunting that he is a freshman is a little agitating when he is not. He would be a good player next year as a senior. But the fact that he is a freshman makes him an amazing, over the top player when he becomes a senior. The same would go for 6 or 7 seniors i can name in the 10th region right now that are good.:thumb:

I'm sorry, it doesn't agitate me. In the real world, nobody but nobody checks your kid to see if he is even with everybody before you start the college class or the job interviews.

I can't disagree with your comment above. I think its fair to the player to no longer bring it up. He is a frosh.

Geez, the dust hasn't settled from the 2008 tourney and we already have over 100 posts about next year's 10th Region. If I didn't know better, I'd think people around here take their roundball seriously...

 

Here's $.02 from a casual fan in the stands.

 

Mason County was the prohibitive 10th region favorite and the preseason #1 in the Commonwealth. They played a very demanding schedule that prepared them for post-season play. They suffered no major injuries. And even though as a Mason County resident, I would love to see the regional tournament in Maysville every year; I firmly believe that playing the tournament away from home also helped a great deal to prepare the Royals for their run at Rupp Arena.

 

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the 10th will be much more competitive next year. Clark County will probably go in as the favorite, but not a prohibitive favorite. Campbell County, Scott, Mason County, Montgomery County and Brossart will challenge; and there's bound to be a surprise or two.

 

I don't care if Stenzel will be a "true sophomore" next year or if he drives the bus. If he doesn't turn 19 before August of his senior year, he has three years left, making him a sophomore. I think Middleton will be POY in a close race over Stenzel and Rash.

 

In order for Mason County to make up for the loss of three starters (one of whom SHOULD be this year's Mr. Basketball) and the sixth man, they will have to rely even more on their defense next year (and this year's defense was excellent). I look for more games in the 50s and 60s next year, and fewer in the 80s. Losing 47 points, 19 rebounds and 5 or 6 assists per game is a lot to overcome, but the cupboard isn't bare in Maysville. There are some pretty special young men that will be freshmen and sophomores next year.

Mason will not have Miller, King, Setty, Tolle who must have accounted for 90 percent of everything, offense, defense, rebounding and most importantly leadership. It will take a dedicated effort on the part of returning Royals to replace these four. Middleton will get his points but others will have to step b especially seniors Downing and Hamm. And defensively the Royals wont have Miller lurking the background permitting defensive players to take chances and be aggressive. But it will be defense that fuels the Royals offense just as it did this year.

Ohearn and the coaches will have to adjust tactics and straties next yearand I am confident they will. However there is a lot of development that has to take place by the young players. The Royals will need to utilize the summer to build strength, develop and refine skills if they are to realize the potential that is there. The potential is there but it remains to be seen if it will become reality.The Royals must not rest on their laurels as there are at least five or six regional teams have similar talent returning and will bring their A game very time against Mason. Should be a most interesting seasion and it is surprising we are all talking about next year so soon after this season ended. Basketball must be in somebody's blood.

I didnt know they had "true freshman" in high school. Do they have redshirt freshman??? Give me a break, who cares how old he is or the decisions his parents made prior to him enrolling in high school. The fact remains he sits in Freshman english class, probably takes a freshman level math and science class too. The kid is a freshman that will have four years of high school just like every other kid. He should absolutely be considered with treg and all the other fine fresh in the region.

I wouldn't underestimate Mason Co. next year. Their very talented j.v. squad only lost 1 game this year. Everyone seems to say that they lack varsity experience but the information that everyone is forgetting is that these kids played tougher competition in practice everyday than those with the varsity experience played in games. I think they'll be right in the thick of things at least in the 10th region, in March next year.

Good point Sugar and you are right. This is what has enabled so many of the Royals to develop and get better. With Miller, Setty, Jackson, King gone practices will be different as well but more competitive in a way as guys vie for spots that now are open. I agree Mason will in the thick of things but not dominant but one of several equals.
