Kristy Orem would be a very interesting choice and I think she would do an OUTSTANDING job if she was to be hired! If they hire from outside the system then I think she would be the perfect choice. Would love to see her back in the 10th region!

 

If Ray Kues was interested and applied for the position then the job would have to be his, hands down--he is that good. I would love to see what he could do w/the resources at a big school like Mason County. I would be very surprised to see Kues interested in this at this stage of his career. He seems very content and happy at Silver Grove.

 

If they stay w/in the system I think Jason Butler would make an excellent choice and would be a very welcomed addition to the head coaching ranks of the 10th region! He has all the necessary tools to be a successful coach.

When I read this post, I emailed Coach Cravens. He said I could post that there is no truth to this.

 

He went on to say and I agree, Brad Riley, former Bracken County Polar Bear and still living there, would be a great candidate for the position.

 

He has a world of experience serving as varsity assistant at Pendleton and Campbell County.

Brad is one of the top 2 or 3 assistants in the 10th Region and a school is making a mistake by not contacting him.

Mason County Girls Basketball is going to take their hard knocks the next couple of years. After that, strap your seatbelt on, and get ready for the ride. The 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teams are absolutely loaded. 8th grade players are Bailey Menke, Katelyn Smith, Kierra Gibbs, Alicia Moore, Christen Cropper, and Courtney Moran dressed Varsity. At the 8th grade level, this team went 41-5. 7th grade class are Taylor Allen, Mckayla Likins, Mariah Henry, and Justice Morton. Taylor and Mckayla played Freshman basketball this year gaining valuable experience. Their 7th grade team went 32-4. The 6th grade class, Allison Breeze, McKenzie Butler, Elle Simms, Charnele Brooks, and Naisha Morton went 27-3 for the school year. As you can see, with the talent coming up, good times are ahead for Mason County Girls Basketball. But, patience is definitely is going to be a virtue. Next year starting line up could consist of 2 juniors, 2 freshman, and a 7th grader. Youth will be a problem, but experience will be gained. Lady Royals Region Champs in 2010. BALLIN'

I would give it another 2 years. I wouldn't say 2010, but maybe the year after, or the year after that. They do have some good young players coming up that are in the middle school right now, and it won't be too long before Mason County is the powerhouse they used to be. They will, though, have a huge drop off, because no matter how talented these kids are, you are losing 3 players that scored, in most games, all but about 10-15 points. That is huge for these players, two who really have varsity experience, to try to make up for, so they will have a hard task ahead of them. I'd say they will take another 2 years to get used to this load, and getting used to playing without the leadership of Cline, Chambers, and Litzinger. Montgomery will be pretty well loaded for the next two years....so once they graduated Jehlik and all them, I say Mason County makes some appearances at Diddle.

 

Oh, and is the 7th grader you're talking about McKenzie Butler? I think that they will start Taylor Allen, or she'll get good playing time. She's a good player, and it will give her chance to develop into a great one.

That would be a GREAT, GREAT hire and put a little scare in everyone else in the 10th region.

 

Put the talent of the past years in Coach Brooks' hands and I don't think Montgomery County is a 4-time repeat regional champion.
