LexCath vs UHA (First rd of Sweet 16)

Featured Replies

You have to remember like it or not, Lexington Catholic plays defense by committee. Their offense seems to catch most peoples eyes, but their defense is unreal. Back tips every second of the game. UHA has some very gifted players yes, but this Catholic team is on a mission, and in a good sportsmanship way they "show no mercy".

This is exactly right. When I have seen this team play this year it is their defense and 32 minute all out full court press that kills teams. They play eight or nine players a game by just throwing bodies out there to tire the other team while their starters get a quick break. Hopson and Edmundson are great players, but if LexCath continues to play like they did in the 11th region, then I don't think UHA can keep up for the entire game due to the complete team effort of containing Hopson and Edmunson plus their depth and ability to catch fire in a hurry. LexCath 77 UHA 62

And two of those losses that UH had. They have already beat both of those teams. Against HCC the point turnaround was 36 points. Hoptown was pretty good this year but UH beat them too. The Male loss came on a last second shot by Male. And the loss to PT was so long ago that it pretty much no longer matters. But I posted earlier about teams both LexCath and UH played... As far as I'm concerned it seems pretty even but a tiny favor to LexCath.

Personally I don't take much stock in comparing one team's performance against a team to another team's performance against the same team. And your logic of the Ballard games seems the most far fetched. All in all, I think its looking at what big wins these two teams have had this year against other good teams and while UHA has had some good ones, Lex Cath has some huge ones. Still, any given night is the motto I like best in sports and Lex Cath can't just walk on the court and expect to win this one in a cake walk.

LexCath has no one to match-up with Hopson.

They don't need anyone to match up with Hopson. Besides, he's going to be plenty busy just keeping up.

No matter what the caliber of play for LexCath has been recently (and they did lose to CovCath earlier in the year), it's hard to imagine a blowout when you've got 2 guys like Edmonson and Hopson on the other side. I guess we'll see, but I expect a close game if Edmonson and Hopson show up.

Lone Oak was supposed to be a close game too.

First of all, who said that?

Second of all, what does football have to do with the Sweet 16?

this is a nice game to start the sweet 16!

I wouldn't get to over confident here, Hopson can keep up with anybody if he really wants too.

I've seen both teams, LexCath vs June Buchanan (on TV and at Clay County) and UHA at the All A state tourney in Richmond. I think this may be a better game than most think, but LexCath's depth may wear UHA down as the game progresses. LexCath by 8.

Does anyone know if Jordan Smart is going to be a walk on at Vandy or if he is getting scholarship? I saw on Rivals.com that he is committed but not signed. I was just curious, thanks.

Thanks, thats what I figured, if he keeps shooting like he did in the 11th region tourney he might end up getting a scholarship.

Was he going there before he found out he could walk on or is that the reason he's going?

A little of both I would think. Smart kid (no pun intended) so Vandy makes sense. I'm guessing he was looking for a good school where he could walk on.

That's kind of what I figured. Check out the thread I started on Arrez Henderson if you know anything about him...

I like a UHA upset.

After watching Catholic dismantle Bryan Station, it will take extreme talent and teamwork to beat this team. One good player will not do it. The team most likely to take Catholic on and beat them I see is a Mason team that is playing thier best. A mediocre night by Mason and they too will fall. As I've always been told though, That is why they play the game, anything can happen!
