At least 1 out of every 4 tennage girls have deadbeat parents! So it does not surprise me.

I can't say that I agree with that. Parents can talk and talk until they are blue in the face and if their kids don't listen then they just don't listen. You can try to teach your children as much as you can but if they get the "sex" thought or any thought in their heads they are going to fly with it.

 

I've seen hundreds and hundreds of girls come through our place and most of these kids were from really good homes. Now, I will agree that there are some parents out there who just don't give a hoot what their kids do but there are parents who do.

 

This just isn't a girl problem. There are boys and yes even men who have come through with STD's also. I've seen young men and women who I knew personally and I knew that if their parents ever found out they would have been grounded for life.

 

HPV vaccine - yes I feel that all girls should get it but they need to understand that it doesn't take care of all STD's.

I really don't know a single person with an STD...So the numbers in the big cities I'd bet are around half, if not more, have an STD, or these numbers are inaccurate....

Not really something to joke about!!! When, and if you have children you will think differently. Not calling you out by no means, but as a parent, it just adds to more worries.

I feel the same way. Back when I was in high school and even now I kinda just laugh at the thought of abstinence but Im sure once Im a parent I will be totally on your side Tater! But for now :sssh::walk:

It is a VERY different view when you are a parent, you don't know love until you have a child.

Tater - you are correct. Unless you have a child/teenager, you don't understand what parent's go through.

I have nearly always have the same reaction when it comes to surveys about teenagers and sex:

 

1. The numbers are always higher than I would expect.

2. I wonder if the numbers reflect my local neighborhood or are skewed because of what goes on elsewhere.

3. I am certain the numbers are much higher than what I or my circle of friends experienced when we were teenagers.

Reproduction not sex is necessary for the survival of all human and animal life on earth.

Is that the school's responsibility or the parents? I don't want the school to step in and teach my impressionable preteen child something that stands in stark contrast to what I am teaching at home.

Basically, what you are saying is that schools should step in and tell 10, 11, 12 year olds that their parents are wrong and this is what they should be doing.

 

What about the schools being responsible for teaching EDUCATION? The 3 R's rather than putting the schools in charge of teaching social issues.

 

 

I don't either. I know some will argue that there are kids that won't have this kind of parental imput at home . . . and those are the kids that need the information. So, then take these high risk kids and school them. We teach and have taught our son about this and we do not want conflicting messages from school to make it sound like having sex as a teenager is as natural as the sun coming up in the morning. No thank you. We will teach him ourselves.

Went through part of the abstinence program this morning and some interesting tidbits:

 

Myth: All teens are doing it. Studies show one of two things. Either it is 50/50 on teens doing it and those are the studies from organizations that was a further comprehensive sex ed unit or that the majority of teens are NOT having sex from the abstinence only studies. So it is a myth, that teens are going to have sex. Most do not. And while Hollyweird and the Internet will be telling them that everyone is doing it, that is a bald-faced LIE!!!! And teens need to hear that. MOST are JUST LIKE THEM!!!!!!!!! Not having sex.

 

For those teens that are having sex, suicide attempts are 8 times more likely than those NOT having sex. In addition, according to the little bit of research I did online, the suicide attempted rate for teens having sex is higher than the adult rate of attempted suicides.

 

The rates were .7 per 1000 for teens not having sex.

5.0 per 1000 for adults

5.6 per 1000 for teens having sex.
