LexCath 80 Scott County 54 - 11th region semis!

I totally disagree!

The Lexington Catholic/Scott County was sloppy from the start. Very poor guard play on both sides. Too much dribbling against the press, out of control passing, and wild shots. There was good talent on the floor, but the game was just crazy.

I also felt both coaches have coached better games. Not many adjustments, just massive substitutions and scatterbrain basketball.

If you think that was "good basketball", we agree to disagree.

Fine, it was pathetic basketball that produced an interesting and exciting game. You are right that it was sloppy but I was entertained. (And yes, I'm actually serious there)

Catholic got in trouble with Sanford being their solid pressure ball handler but also horrible when it came to making silly fouls. After that they went to Tribble and he just didn't get the concept of slowing the game down some and didn't handle the disguised trap very well. Scott Co. never looked in rhythm necessarily unless Phares had the ball. They might have been better served to work the game in the half court set. Of course, both teams ran heavy pressure presses and never let each other find a rhythm.

The 19 -1 run was definately a tough start. Last year with Walls, he could dribble through any press. He could handle extremely well and was very strong with the ball. Difficult to replace a Walls, unless you do it with a Walls. Maybe little brother who will be a freshman next year will turn out to be as good. SC will be back.

This is the first time in a while that SC hasn't had a really good PG. Walls and Mackey could both break a press by themselves. Before them was Tyler Hicks. Before him was C-3 Brown, Before him was Casey Alsop, Before him was Rick Jones and when Coach Hicks came to G-town he could put the ball in the hands of Michael Richardson.

Josh Walls will be a good one - but is at least another year away. I'm guessing G-lawn will improve his ball handling skills in the off season. They are probably having open gym and weight lifting later this week.

Ge-lawn does not have a point guard mentality. He is a shoot first, pass second guy and that will not serve him well in his goal to play at a high Division I level in college.

Guyn is an irresistible force when it comes to attacking the basket but he needs to develop his ball handling and control his energy better. When this happens watch out! Probably the best underclassman in Central Kentucky right now. UB, I agree that Tribble needs to quit getting into traps and he did so after losing the ball on two consecutive trips up court. Played solid after that. I think he will be one of the most important players for Catholic tonight. His energy matches that of Guyn and no one has more heart. He pushes the Catholic offense but will need to recognize the BS Defender that is always back when an attempt at a fast-break occurs.

Surely you jest...better than Vee? G'lawn has hops, but after that I don't see G'lawn as even the best underclassman on his own team.

Mackey was like that and he was still a VERY good PG. I can see the staff harnessing Guyn's energy and mentality a little with the off season and summer coming up. Guyn will HAVE to play PG for SC next year from all I am gathering, especially if Hicks wants to continue with his one man press breaker. Aaron Ford can be a solid back up PG, but no way he can run the type of press offense that Hicks likes to run. Hicks doesnt mind if they are shoot first, as long as they can handle the pressure they are bound to get.

Also, for Guyn to reach his goal of being a high D1 player, he does need to learn to play the point. I dont care what he is listed at, he is NOT 6'3 or whatever. He might be 6'1 and if he isnt going to grow any more he has to learn to run the point.

Phares is easily the best player on the team, probably in the region next year. I would put Guyn ahead of Sanford from what I have seen.

And I have to ask, how does Sanford play in that HUGE undershirt?

Maybe that is why Sanford only had 1 pt. Sunday.:p

No doubt. Coach should have some say in keeping Sanford in some clothes that fit...
