I believe this will be the deciding factor in the game. Other than the Royal's and Lion's key players, they both need the bench to step up in order to win. From watching the Royals play recently, this is what they have been doing. On the other hand I cant see this happening with the Lions in this rematch. I could be wrong if the Sandy Hook boys surprise me and play team ball instead of worrying about their own stats.

I love the 16th region. You guys (and gals) have as much passion about your teams as any region in the state. I enjoy reading your threads ( at least until they get shut down. :lol: ) The season is almost over, so I can't resist posting at least one more time in a 16th region thread, so here goes:

 

This will be a great game. IMO, this should have been the championship game to determine who gets to represent the region at Rupp.

 

I got to see Elliott play Cov Cath in the 5th/3rd back in December. They appeared to be a pretty mature team, but struggled against CC before falling by 14. I’ve seen Rose Hill play several times this season, in the King of the Bluegrass, the Nissan Shootout and against Boone County. They are a young team, with lots of sophs and freshmen on the floor. They have matured a lot since December. At this point in the year, both teams are equally seasoned, so experience will not be the factor it might have been for Elliott earlier in the year.

 

Ferguson is a scoring machine for the Lions. He can drop ‘em in from 30 feet, and hit ‘em falling backwards inside. He has great hops and is hard to guard. The twins are perpetual motion machines all over the floor. Maynard is in range when he steps off the bus. Timmy Knipp can shoot. Elliott will not quit until the final horn sounds.

 

The problem for the Lions is Rose Hill has a definite advantage in size, at least where it counts.

 

This game comes down to Euton and Jackson for the Hill. Elliott does not have a single answer for Euton. The Knipp kid is long, but gives up about 50 lbs to Euton. The last time these two played, Euton racked up about 23 points and 17 boards. The only way to contain him is to double him up. Jackson is the second unstoppable element for the Hill. Elliott does not have a single player who can consistently stop Jackson. He’s too big and too quick. The last time these two matched up, Jackson had something like 17 points and 11 boards. Euton and Jackson will require double team pressure from Elliott all night just to slow them down. The problem there is the Barber kid is among the best shooters in the state anywhere out to 28 feet, Arthur is deadly inside of 18 feet, Davis can get up and down the floor for a 6’ 4” kid, and can finish in flurries, Gambill and Malloy can knock down shots out to 20+ feet. Even the Bush boy can’t be left wide open or he’ll pop you. Rose Hill has come a long way since December and even since these two met in January.

 

Elliott is a very good team, but I have to go with the Hill in a close one.

These boys have worked very hard to get to this point and are keeping their eye on the prize. They will be hard to stop, and are much improved since the last time they met!!!! Last game Elliott shot 28% and RH shot 53%. Elliott, although winning, has not shot well the last few weeks. Better shooting allows Elliott more opportunites to get transition defense buckets.

 

Prediction: Rose Hill shoots 47% and Elliott shoots 42%.Elliott 75 Rose Hill 67

 

Remember: Last time despite a 25% difference in shooting it was a one point game inside a minute left. RH has to have a 15% difference in shooting to win this game. RH will shoot a higher % than Elliott (see above) but still lose the game. Difference in shooting between the two teams will be under 10%.

Elliott and especially Ferg will shoot the three much better than last time!!!

I wil go with Rose Hill by 2, quite possibly in an o.t.. Rose Hill is playing very well right now and the game Jackson had last time out was amazing. Jackson combined with Euton imo will pull one out against a very good Elliot team.

 

I do believe that the winner of this game will win the region............unless they are so physically tired and beat up from this game when playing in the championship game and East or Ashland could sneak one in but I doubt that very seriously.

Then it's on to Friday night in a re-match with the Raiders from down home. Oh yeah ..... It's going to be sweet.

If RH utilizes Jacksons size and quickness and Eutons size on the inside and gets the contributions they have been getting outside of the big 2, keep their turnovers around 13-15 they will be fine.... Elliott can afford for someone to have an off nite they have 4 or 5 that can go off and have a big nite and pick up the slack.... RH must get their big 2 on their averages no off nites from here on out.

I hope they win and I am rooting for them to do so but if they finish their careers any where else but Rose Hill that would be a shame. They have worked so hard and now have a great young supporting cast that they and Elliott could be a great game in the ALL A and the 16th region for years to come and I woudl hate to see them leave just to help improve a certain team that needs little help year in and year out improving.

Look, I've got nothing against the 16th Region. I have some really good friends up that way, and know some outstanding young athletes from that region. But you can't possibly be serious about arguing that more 16th Region threads get shut down than any other region. That's not an insult... if anything it's a testament to the passion you all have for your teams. You guys take it seriously. :thumb:
