Eta Rho Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Holmes got the best of Dixie on their home floor 65-50 the first time around in a game that was never close and were up by as many as 27. Dixie had a few players out and Mace suffered an injury and didn't play the fourth quarter. Do the players missing make enough of a difference to knock the Dawgs off or is Holmes just too much for the Red Colonels?
madman Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Holmes by 20. They are just to quick and athletic for Dixie.
greendevil Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 I think Holmes wins but it might be closer than expected, which I actually think will be good for the dogs going into the 9th final...
Henry521 Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 When is this game? Is there a chance it will be cancelled due to weather?
Eta Rho Posted March 7, 2008 Author Posted March 7, 2008 When is this game? Is there a chance it will be cancelled due to weather? No. It's Monday night, 8:30 at Conner.
Eta Rho Posted March 7, 2008 Author Posted March 7, 2008 I think Holmes wins this one big but it will be close the first 3 quarters. In the end their depth and athleticism will wear the Colonels down. Across the board Dixie has the height to match up with Holmes, but they just don't have the horses to stop Holmes defensively. IMo for Dixie to stay in this game they are going to have to shoot lights out from the 3 point line. Dixie will also have to have Mace stay out of foul trouble. He struggled with Clark down low last game. Correct me if I'm wrong with the starters for DIxie, but I think we'll see these match ups: Avery-Lawson J. Johnson- Boese/Benge R. Johnson- Pompilio Henderson-Kendall Clark-Mace
nees1212 Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 I've only watched a game of each this year, but based off of those games, if I were Dixie, I'd pack it in and make Holmes beat you from the outside. There's no way Dixie can run or man up with Holmes. Plus, I didn't really see any solid shooters for Holmes. On offense, they have to be patient, and they have to hit the outside shots. If they play like they did last night, Holmes can pick the score. For Holmes, I'd press and run, run, run.

Dixie can start out in a zone to slow Holmes down but eventually will get killed on the boards. It will only work so long before they start getting second and third opportunities and back door lay ups. I can guarantee you Henley will be making the starters go against a zone all week end in practice. Also Holmes will press the whole game. Dixie doesn't handle the press well at all.

Dixie will definitely have to find a body when the shot goes up, but IMO, a zone defense is the only way to slow them down. They have way too many athletes for Dixie to match up with. If they pack it tight, then the back door layup shouldn't be there. However, if Holmes starts hitting the outside shots, then a tight zone isn't going to work. And, if the zone isn't working period, then switch it out, but I think you have to start with a zone defense against them.
TURBOENNIS Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 :flame: Same old saying, too fast, Dawgs by 15+ :flame:

I'm surprised Sandman hasn't graced us with his presence yet in this thread.

Now I've just got to decide what time I want to get there. I don't want to stand in the cold forever, and I really don't expect a big turnout.
