Qryche11 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Ok, I finally took the plunge and joined this gym last weekend cancelling out Fitworks. They just opened up a state of the art fitness center in Bellevue and I was really impressed. Huge fans hovering above and flat screens everywhere, even above the urinals in the mens bathroom. I have been working out since College pretty consistently until the past year or so. I slipped a disc in my neck shoveling mulch and took a lot of time off. This gym has so much and the views of Mt. Adams/Downtown/River are pretty sweet when you are doing cardio. I worked out chest and back yesterday and will do arms and shoulders today. I am already experiencing some major soreness and have been eating Ibuprofen since last night. Any other suggestions from you workout gurus to keep the muscles from being so sore during my first couple weeks back? BTW- the Cinema room down there is just sick. Its like AMC, surround sound, huge. Also, if you go make sure you negotiate your price and be prepared for the Trainers to swoop in for their little sales bit. I got a family plan that allows my wife, me and two older kids who are 13/14 to go for a very good price. Every piece of equipment is brand new and it will become my new hangout at lunch.
Beechwoodfan Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 That place looks very very nice. Can you give us a ball park figure of what it would cost a family of 4 to join?
98NCCalum Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 It's called Urban Active and yesterday was the first day it was open. I was suprised how many people were there actually. The place is huge but like stated above it's state of the art. My whole family goes as well. We were all there last night and will be again tonight! Great place!

Nothing like screwing the name of the joint up. Oh well, it can be called The Gym for all I care, it is sweet. The lap pool is pretty cool also. I think I am taking the family down tonight as well. You going to be sporting some Indiana gear 98?

I'm meeting my Dad at 3:30, and have a meeting at 5. So i'll be there until 4:30ish.
98NCCalum Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 BTW, my friends and I still call it Golds. That's what it was supposed to be until the guy opted out of his Gold's contract.

BoondockSaint Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Urban Active is a really great gym. They are actually Gold's Gym but had to change their name in KY/TN/OH/IN I believe do to franchising rights or something to that nature. Their new places here in Louisville are just absurd, they are some of the nicest gyms I have ever seen before. My only complaint is that they could have more equipment with how spread out everything is.
NEERFAN Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I listened to Pitino during one of his call in shows and he said the equipment is amazing. He spoke of a machine that stretches the back, said they had 4 of them at one of the L'ville locations, said they were very expensive machines.
strongopenyon Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Urban Active's owner, Royce Pulliam, was the largest Gold Gym franchisee in the country. He wanted to be given more states to develop his wonderful product, but Golds said "no". He has spun away and is developing his own label which is named after Richard Branson's Virgin Active gyms in Europe. These are state of the art physical fitness centers that will continue to grow and improve.
GaViking Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I know a few people who are member's of Urban Active and they seem happy with the gym. A couple of people have hired trainer's and really like it. It's up to the individual person.
Son of Bear Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I have a question....what is that huge gym on I-75 in near the Florence mall with all the windows? Is it new? It looked like an awesome place to work out last time I passed through that area...
GaViking Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 There are gym's in Erlanger, (the new one's in Florence and Bellevue). I think they also have gym's in Cincinnati (Norwood) that I know of.
