Are you sure it was a 150 MPH crosswind? That is strong category 4 hurricane winds and near a category 5. :confused:

I question the wind speed as well. They close Tampa International when gusts get over 55 mph. The terminal to air side shuttles are even stopped at that speed. To get a 150 mph gust like that you would have to have sustained winds over 100 mph.

I think 150 MPH wind would have destroyed the plane. Actually, I think the airport would have re-routed the plane in that situation.

Saw this on the weather channel. I could've done without having seen it. I have a horrible fear of flying, I guess because I'm not in controll. But yeh I'm flying to Chicago, then to Puerto Vallarta, luckily the forecast looks good.

I wouldn't doubt that half the passengers on that plane will never get on another one again.

Reading a thread on another board, they said crosswinds were at 35 knots with gusts up to 55 knots. A pilot chimed in and said that that type of plane can handle landings at 38 knots, and based on the information given and the airport, the pilot should have landed on runway 33 and not 23.
