I heard that Cody Groves has quit the team, wanting to foucs on basketball. A sport that he hasnt played since 8th grade. On the positive side, at passing camp I head Cody Curtis was shinning and could be the #1 receiver for the indians.

Good luck to him if that is his choice. I don't think he has the height for BB.

Is he a lights out shooter or something?

Nope. And the basketball team has started summer basketball and he hasn't been there so I don't know what the situation is.

I just found out that 3 linemen went to Eastern Kentucky Linemen Camp. They were Tyler Hussey, Grant Darnell, and Andre McCall. Grant Darnell won the Best Pass Rusher Award and Tyler Hussey won the Most Improved player award. Looks like the linemen are going out and impressing the coaches. Next week all the linemen will be at Down and Dirty Linemen Camp. Good luck boys.

I would guess these three have a real chance to be leaders on the line as well as the entire team. The programs Coach Gooch has installed seems to be very productive in developing players as well as the team.

Rash hasn't played since his 8th grade year(I believe) and doesn't want to start playing now. Hendrix has decided not to play football and just stick with basketball. IMO they would have helped the indians out greatly at WR and possably as DB'S.

That's a shame. His football future is much brighter than his basketball future imo.

Just found out today that the team will be featured on channel 27 tomorrow at 9AM, Dan Gooch along with a couple players will be interviewed!

Just found out more info on the TV apperance. The indians are one team featured on channel 27 "27 teams in 27 days". When i find out the exact day that they are featured i will post it.

What can constructive comments can you offer to Montgomery Co. Indians football coaches and team?

What happened to the Hendricks kid this year - former QB?

I believe he decided to focus on basketball during his senior year. I believe this has already been discussed in this thread.

The Indians must get more athletes out to continue to build program. The Hendricks and Rash kids are just a couple of examples of kids just playing one sport now. The Comb's boys would help as well as several others that have fallen by the way. MC in a precarious position at 5A where enrollment not big enough to have very many 1 sport atheletes, hurts baseball and football the most with the addition of spring football. Gooch has always been a great defensive coach and the addition of Crain at the offensive end has been the difference last couple of seasons. If they truly want to build a dominate sports program (not just football) the coaches will have to encourage 2 and 3 sport atheletes and share their time in the spring. The numbers at the youth level have always been there but they get pulled to one sport or the other at the High School level. As far as atheletic scholarships go, many former basketball players had a much better chance of landing a quality scholorship at football and baseball than in roundball. From what I hear, Grieser and Combs are more than willing to share players. I may be wrong but it seems like Gooch is demanding the football kids be football only and thus losing out in the long run. With all the preseason conditioning and year round sports seasons now the coaches will have to adapt and share the time to make it pay off.

There were some good points there, but I know for a fact Coach Gooch wants his players to play multipule sports. In high school Gooch played football, basketball and wrestled. I have heard him talk about all his skill players play basketball and his linemen wrestle, he urges his players to play other sports. Yes Hendrix and Rash just play basketball but look at players like Ryan Hackworth who plays football, basketball, and track and used to play baseball. Also Cody Curtis, football, basketball, and baseball. Grant Darnell is playing both football and basketball this year. Tyler Cundiff plays football and runs track. Tyler Hussey plays football, throws shotput, and used to play both basketball and baseball. The football team might not get all the athletes but they get most of them. The basketball team has alot of players that just play basketball including Rash, Hendrix, Crisp, Manship, Craycraft and others. Last years basketball seniors just played basketball include, Stephens, Gibbons, and Clark. The kids that can play multipule sports should and they should be supported not just by coaches but athletic directors and fans.

I agree that some are multiple sport kids but that # needs to be much higher for them to build the programs and contend in the current alignments. I have heard stories of kids being pressured regarding starting status if not present during spring football. With all the summer 7 on 7 etc. there is plenty of time to iron out starters. If they can play they can play, spring practice or not. Good example is the QB now, gave up baseball which he would have much better shot at scholarship wise. He was also decent at basketball. He could get plenty enough reps in summer to establish starting status. You have to keep'em involved in all sports. Builds diversity and atheletic ability. Nothing better for a QB than a season of agility building basketball or arm strength building by long tossing baseball all spring. IMO

I respect all four of our major sport coaches. But, you've missed this one.

Players decide which sport they will play. Some have chosen to focus on one or two sports. Coaching in KY, in all the sports, has improved dramatically over the past ten years. Look at facilities, many improvements have been made statewide, not just at MC.

Sports Illustrated even had a cover story a few years back about the 3 sport high school athlete being a rare thing these days. The issue is not the coaches. It's the demands of the sports themselves. Lets all face it, AAU, not coach Greisner, changed the basketball scene forever. The days of a 6'3 kid walking the hallways and being talked into playing basketball and the kid actually being able to compete are long gone. In baseball, pitchers just don't throw it hard, the actually pitch, is that our baseball coaches fault. In football, teams don't run pass plays to a specific receiver, the recievers run routes and the QB has to read the coverage on the fly, is this Gooch's problem. I don't think so.

These young men and women need some time to hang out and be teenagers too. Every sport won't get every kid, plain and simple.

The players will decide and it won't be based on the coaches or the facilities. If that is the case, MC would be turning kids away from every sport because the school system has provided the players with wonderful facilities and coaches. I hope we are getting done academically too.

Trey Comb's is playing. By the way, anyone know what position Trey is playing? My guess would be TE and/or LB.
