I respect all four of our major sport coaches. But, you've missed this one.

Players decide which sport they will play. Some have chosen to focus on one or two sports. Coaching in KY, in all the sports, has improved dramatically over the past ten years. Look at facilities, many improvements have been made statewide, not just at MC.

Sports Illustrated even had a cover story a few years back about the 3 sport high school athlete being a rare thing these days. The issue is not the coaches. It's the demands of the sports themselves. Lets all face it, AAU, not coach Greisner, changed the basketball scene forever. The days of a 6'3 kid walking the hallways and being talked into playing basketball and the kid actually being able to compete are long gone. In baseball, pitchers just don't throw it hard, the actually pitch, is that our baseball coaches fault. In football, teams don't run pass plays to a specific receiver, the recievers run routes and the QB has to read the coverage on the fly, is this Gooch's problem. I don't think so.

These young men and women need some time to hang out and be teenagers too. Every sport won't get every kid, plain and simple.

The players will decide and it won't be based on the coaches or the facilities. If that is the case, MC would be turning kids away from every sport because the school system has provided the players with wonderful facilities and coaches. I hope we are getting done academically too.

Just found out more info on the TV apperance. The indians are one team featured on channel 27 "27 teams in 27 days". When i find out the exact day that they are featured i will post it.

The word I heard this weekend is this Thursday Aug. 14th at 11:00pm. Can anyone else confirm this?

It was last night...I saw it on the 27 website this morning.

Sorry, guess I got some bad info. Hate I missed it, I'll check it out on the web site later.

Trey Comb's is playing. By the way, anyone know what position Trey is playing? My guess would be TE and/or LB.

Linebacker, and I'm not sure offensively.

Thanks Smackmaster, how has Trey looked? I known this is his 1st year playing football.

This is a good point, but the question was what would it take for MC to improve the program. I don't see them getting over the hump until someone can get more of those one sport athletes to expand their horizons. Not saying its any one coaches fault, just saying a lot goes into a players decision to play 2 and 3 sports and they sometimes need a little extra nudge. One thing is for sure, it's not for lack of facilities-awesome campus!!;)

From the looks of recent posts, looks like Curtis and Combs are out for football. Thats a great starting point to build on!!

There were some good points there, but I know for a fact Coach Gooch wants his players to play multipule sports. In high school Gooch played football, basketball and wrestled. I have heard him talk about all his skill players play basketball and his linemen wrestle, he urges his players to play other sports. Yes Hendrix and Rash just play basketball but look at players like Ryan Hackworth who plays football, basketball, and track and used to play baseball. Also Cody Curtis, football, basketball, and baseball. Grant Darnell is playing both football and basketball this year. Tyler Cundiff plays football and runs track. Tyler Hussey plays football, throws shotput, and used to play both basketball and baseball. The football team might not get all the athletes but they get most of them. The basketball team has alot of players that just play basketball including Rash, Hendrix, Crisp, Manship, Craycraft and others. Last years basketball seniors just played basketball include, Stephens, Gibbons, and Clark. The kids that can play multipule sports should and they should be supported not just by coaches but athletic directors and fans.

That is only the case when it comes to wrestling because it helps with "form" and it is coached by an assistant coach. You may not know, but Zach Stroub hurt himself in baseball and that affected his QB abilities. He always makes sure they are committed to football over anything else. Even though he deals with Baseball/Football and Basketball/Football players, he likes it if they are committed to solely football.

As far as baseball, I don't think he wants his players playing baseball, for the simple reason that if you play baseball you can't play spring football. Stroub's main position has always been safety and Kaleb Curtis has always been QB.

There was a time where he was actually doing a nice job as Quarterback early freshman year, but needless to say Curtis was definitely a better decision.

Seth Dotson did a good job taking over for Curtis, being as he is so young, but who is the back-up for him at the moment? Last I heard in Spring Ben Tuttle was, but someone has told me he was not.

Cody Curtis is the backup and freshman Kenon Kelly is the 3rd stringer.

What quality coach doesn't want committed athletes?

Like I said earlier, coaching in all the sports has improved and the demands on athletes has changed. Todays coaches, in all the sports, may want their players to be committed to their sport only, but all coaches know its a selfish thought and the good ones try to accomodate their fellow coaches and the players.

Just like a soccer player kicking for football. This should be happening at every school where a soccer player has an interest in doing so.

Keep in mind,by rules of the KHSAA, a coach in KY can't prevent a player who plays baseball from participating in football in the fall because he doesn't participate in the spring football program.

But a coach can "pick" on them for it.

Who is the new line coach at MC? He was at the lineman camp with them and was new to the staff.
