How is attendance at your schools baseball games? What has your program done to improve attendance, if anything?

 

I think the weather has a lot to do with the attendance. Nice warm sunny afternoons/evenings, and you see good size crowds! However, cool/cold, damp, cloudy and windy day's, well other than the moms and dads, only real baseball nuts show up! Not much the schools can do about the weather.

 

As you can see below, a rather good turn out of students down the third base line, at a CovCath home game!

 

I agree weather is a factor. Too bad they can't have the season to start in August.

Very true. People will show up in cold weather football games because that kind of weather is kind of expected, plus football games are much more of an "event." One other thing is that not alot of schools have decent concession stands for baseball. It's not every school that can offer the world famous Cov Cath burgers for a ball game. :thumb:

Will have to do my best food at a ball game again this year. Last year other than at CovCath, the food at the Boyd County Derby Classic was outstanding, and a tip of the cap, to the Hot Metts at the Hamilton Badin game!

Attendance at baseball has more to do with the fact that you play nearly everyday instead of the once a week "event" of football. You'll never draw "Football" size crowds when they can come the next day or the nest, etc. Early game time also are a problem. We get good crowds at our games depending alot on who the opponent is.

At my old job I was able to make arrangements to make it to an early game. Now it is always after 5 pm and miss alot of the game. I like Saturday games they are best for me. JD

That's a good suggestion, but won't happen. The schools need to promote baseball more to the students. Announce games on the days that they have them and encourage the students to attend. I know for a fact that some teachers will give points to go to football and basketball games. They can do the same for baseball and softball. It's going to take an effort by parents, students, and school administration to get people to the game.

 

I have even suggested that we have promotions similar to the minor league teams. Nothing as extravagent, but along the same lines. Have parents of young kids (4-8) to come to the game so that the kids could run the bases before games, meet the players, or throw with the boys.

UK has practically made season tix free for its girls BB to boost attendance.

All UL home games are free. It's gotten me and my 2 boys to several games, cheapskate that I am.

No charge for admission in Harrison County and attendance is great!

Wow. They could probably get a good crowd if they charged as well.

I am positive that GCHS admin. will have no problem letting people in for free, being the non-money grubbing people that they are!!
