As we get near the Sweet Sixteen week, and the inevitable talk about how the Ninth Region is title-less with the exodus of Simon Kenton, I wanted to find out if anyone had a breakdown on state titles by region. At the KHSAA website, it looks like 55 different schools have won state titles, and 16 of those are no longer in existance. Thus, only 39 different existing schools can claim to own a state title.

 

Other than the Ninth, do all the other regions have a state title to their credit? For those that don't, is/are there a story behind it (like there is in the Ninth) about coming close?

I"ll give it a try. 1st=Cuba & North Marshall, 2nd= Hoptown and UHA, 3rd=Owensboro, 4th=Warren Central, 5th= Marion County, 6th=PRP, Fairdale, others, 7th=Male & Ballard, others, 8th Scott County 99 before they went to 11th, 9th=Simon Kenton, 10th=Mason Co. & Maysville, 11th Scott Co. Henry Clay, Lafayette, 12th=???? Stuck on this one. 13th= Clay Co. 14th=Carr Creek, Hazard, 15th=Paintsville, 16th=Ashland. I'm sure there are others, 12th has me stuck right now? Any help?

12th=South Laurel. Forgot about this one. Believe they are in the 13th now but were in the 12th when they won it.

Heath (1929) is a current resident of the 1st Region. Shelby Co. (8th Region) has two titles.

Add Lex Cath to the 11th but otherwise, looks alright so far.

Region 1 hasn't had a state title since North Marshall in 1959 and only two teams in the finals since then ... Carlisle County in 1983 and Paducah Tilghman in 2002.

Add Corbin and Harlan to the 13th.
