Do remarks by Obama's wife hurt him?

Featured Replies

Among other things she has said were that for the first time in her adult life she was proud of her country because of the way they have embraced her husband and his campaign of change. She also said that Obama was the only candidate that can heal the soul of America.

If she's been that unhappy with the United State why has she stayed and can you imagine the howling from the media had a Republican had even suggested that America had a soul to heal?

I think it's just typical political jargon and those who don't like Obama, will have more reason and those who do, will overlook the comments.

I understand HER statement(s)

Could you See a BLACK OR A WOMAN running and geting this kind of acceptance in the 1960's and 70's???? NO I think not

Even though we have came a long way since then I was sickened by what I heard when I went to the store last Friday night and I was amazed at how bad these men were talking..

NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE But,

You would have thought that The KKK was at Wal-Mart when they were talking about Obama's Race and that no good B Hillary..... taking away there guys and putting all the whites in jail.... And how Obama will get assignated(sp)

I don't know if this is just an Eastern KY problem or what But It was awful and really upset me...

My thought are far from this but I think it takes a bigger to to understand and not be a racist/sexist!!!!! JMOP

I don't think it will hurt him that much against Hillary, but it will if he is the one chosen to run against McCain. The Republicans will use those sound bites in numerous commercials.

For some reason I think she didn't mean that to come out the way it did. Surely she knows better than that. She has Harvard and Princeton degrees, and such.

Are we voting for Obama, or are we voting for his wife? Seems like comments like this from her shouldn't matter, given that she is not the actual candidate for president. I can't imagine someone not voting for a candidate because they do not like the qualifications of the potential first lady (or first husband, as the case may be. :D)

I don't disagree with her. If you are 40 and under you have never voted in a Presidential Election that Bush or a Clinton wasn't on the ticket. I think that is to what she was referring. It is entirely possible for the first time in 28 years that a Clinton or Bush WON'T be in office. Also sounds like Hillary isn't going to be the VP partner either if Obama wins the nomination.

Hey did you know his middle name was Bin Laden? And that he eats the souls of white babies? And that he took his Oath of Office on an Oprah Book Club Selection? :sssh: :jump::thumb:

She has clarified her comments:

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The wife of Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama sought Wednesday to clarify her comment that for the first time she's really proud of her country.

On Monday, Michelle Obama told an audience in Milwaukee that "For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country. Not just because Barack is doing well, but I think people are hungry for change." Cindy McCain, wife of Republican presidential contender John McCain, later sought to capitalize on the remark, saying, "I have, and always will be, proud of my country."

Asked by WJAR-TV if she would like to clarify her comment, Obama replied that she has been struck by the number of people going to rallies and watching debates, as well as record voter turnouts.

"What I was clearly talking about was that I'm proud in how Americans are engaging in the political process," she said.

"For the first time in my lifetime, I'm seeing people rolling up their sleeves in a way that I haven't seen and really trying to figure this out — and that's the source of pride that I was talking about," she added.

When asked if she had always been proud of her country, she replied "absolutely" and said she and her husband would not be where they are now if not for the opportunities of America.

If married, does your wife influence your views on matters cause you hold her voice on issues as important?

Not if you're Mike Huckabee...

Actually, I'm not married yet, and if I was, you would be asking if my husband influenced my decisions. :D

Either way, I understand your point.

Not according to what Mike Huckabee answered himself on the issue of wives.

There are idiot voters on both sides, who cares. There are racist people of every color. The fact that Obama is a candidate tells me we've "healed" plenty. Can't we just move past this kind of nonsense?

Just a joke, lbbc.

I took it that way:thumb:, but there are some on here that will quickly jump on the bandwagon that he is some religious zealot that thinks a women should be seen and not heard.

I think Michelle Obama has been a huge positive for Barack's campaign thus far.
