Bald Eagles

Featured Replies

I friend posted a blurry picture this week of one in Wayne County.

There used to be several around Wolf Creek Dam on the western end of Lake Cumberland.

Visit Wolf Creek Dam every year along with Conley Bottom and sometimes to Burnside. All my family is down that way. Been going down since I was born

Interesting

I'm working a fairly new gig...I've got a 20 acre lake on the edge of a golf course right out of my office window. I commented to someone last week that I thought it was cool seeing 3 and 4 blue herons at a time hanging out at the waters edge, and her response was, "Have you not seen the bald eagles yet?"

Came to found out that there is a pair of nesting bald eagles in the trees on the lakeside. Then on Tuesday I was standing at my desk and talking on the phone, and I looked out the window just in time to see one of the eagles snatch a fish up out of the lake. CRAZY cool!

Is this a lake in a park? Would be cool to be able to observe.

The lake is actually on the edge of the property at the Valhalla Golf Club, so unfortunately it's not open to the public.

Even though I've seen dozens and dozens of them while on our fishing trips in Canada, I never fail to get excited when I see my next one.

We fish a stretch that we call "Eagles." There is a nest that we come up on, and every time, one or two will casually fly to a dead tree on an island in front of us, wait for us to vacate his/their area, and then return to the nest.

Eagles are indeed majestic birds.

We have also been fortunate to see one occasionally at Pickwick Lake in Tennessee, along with loons, during the spring.
