March 10, 20188 yr North American Bald eagles are not uncommon here on the lake. I've seen several. I posted a picture I took of one on here several years ago. About a week or so ago, my neighbor showed me a picture he took a of a young male perched in a live oak near his house. He only noticed because of how big the bird was bending the limb on the big tree. The eagle was not fully plumed out, that's how we know it was young, but it was definitely a bald eagle, not a Osprey, which is often confused with one.
June 27, 20188 yr Even though I've seen dozens and dozens of them while on our fishing trips in Canada, I never fail to get excited when I see my next one. We fish a stretch that we call "Eagles." There is a nest that we come up on, and every time, one or two will casually fly to a dead tree on an island in front of us, wait for us to vacate his/their area, and then return to the nest. Eagles are indeed majestic birds. We have also been fortunate to see one occasionally at Pickwick Lake in Tennessee, along with loons, during the spring. This post was made back in March. I have since returned to the area referenced and got a good shot of one of the two eagles who reside on that stretch of the North Channel of Lake Huron.
June 27, 20188 yr Off topic but related. This spring at Pickwick we saw a huge flock of snow geese at Pickwick. First time I had ever seen the all white geese. Is this a rare sighting or are they rather common.

That's within the Mississippi flyway and the bird would have been traveling back to Canada for spring breeding grounds. On occasion, I'll see them in Lawrenceburg, IN area. July 28, 20188 yr On the beach in South Haven Michigan couple weeks ago. The birds (gulls) that gather waiting for you to drop food or feed them were out in the hundreds as usual. Then all of the sudden they all took flight and headed out over lake Michigan. Not a single bird left on the beach. Then we saw what scared them away. Big beautiful bald Eagle flying South about 40 ft off the ground. It flew directly over us then landed in a tree just south of where the beach ended. Within a minute all the gulls came back.
