KHSAA board blasts LCA: Says Violations Fuel Public-Private Enmity

Featured Replies

Private Schools should not be allowed to give Fianancial Aid. LCA cheated and should be stripped of there title and not allowed to participate this year. All public schools should boycoytt the Privates.

J-town's coach cheated. Should they be stripped of their title, not allowed to participate this year and all public schools boycott them?

Looks to me like the going rate for a potential Mr. Basketball is a 4 game suspension. Not to bad a deal if you ask me.

Alltell,

LBBC provided that info in another thread. I believe that it was in conversation with covercorner. Not for sure where though.

From LBBC:

I was trying to find in the KRS laws concerning distribution of funds. Found this. Have NO CLUE what it means.:D

157.030 Net revenue to be distributed -- Incidental expenses not to be deducted.

The net revenue of the common school fund accruing during each school year shall

constitute the sum to be distributed. No fee, discount, check, or other incidental expense

shall be paid out of the distributable share of the revenue apportioned to any school

district.

It seems that it may implicitly be agianst KY law for a public school to grant financial aid to Tuition paying students IF that money comes from the allocated funds that all schools get from the state. I don't know if it concerns money the school would get from local taxes. It is possible that could be illegal as well, but it is just speculation. However, this would not concern donations to a financial aid fund from private citizens or companies. Nothing the way I read this statute, seems to prohibit this. Coupled with Bylaw 7, I would say that a Public School could offer tuition assistance to tuition paying students (that wish to be eligible for athletics), if they abided by Bylaw 7, and ensure that it is need based, and the school uses a third party service to decide and approve of which students should recive what amounts of the tuition.

So in other words from all evidence that has been presented public schools that accept tuition paying students COULD offer need based financial aid to those students under the same conditions that the private schools do now but they CHOOSE not to.

Seems like another self-imposed limitation to me.

No more so than it is a self-imposed limitation on private schools that they don't receive state and federal funding.

It is because they don't want to have to have the state/federal testing and standards heaped onto them.

So the claim of "every kid is on financial assistance" that is lobbied on public schools is a self-imposed limitations to private schools.

Using your line of thought.

I read the headline of this thread and thought...well no kidding. It just proves what public schools have been saying all along.

The state title should be stripped as well as all the wins where the player was on the court and I bet you would never see this happen again. Ignorance of the rules is not a defense...well at least that is what the parking attendent told me when I got a ticket.

I am for boycotting the schools. We could have a very good system without them and not have to listen to this issue anymore. They could bid against each other for students and go their separate ways.

What I don't understand is why ALL private schools must be boycotted because one committed a violation. Would it serve any justifiable purpose, other than to satisfy some latent angst of those who are anti-private schools?

Just so you know that those kids are going to be coming from public schools.

I understand that but at least they are playing others that have this advantage. Most Rural school students do not have any opportunity to go to private schools nor would they want to. They actually have pride in their hometown.

LCA Girls beat us out of all A. They were a much better team than us, do not get me wrong. But every one of our girls was a home grown product that were developed by a solid program.

Maybe more kids would stay in the public schools if they knew they had a chance against like schools.

Seems most do these things to get jump started and with the policies in place for them to be allowed to recruit students and draw from all over, with financial aid, it is and makes for unfair advantage. Not to mention all male and female student populations.

Take a look at the rapid success of these programs. Please don't tell me you are working harder. Coach at LCA football was at Hazard and Montgomery and this didn't happen. I believe that it is a direct result of the policies and different guidelines these school have.

Every school can cheat......I don't think that is why the boycott is taking place.

I don't disagree with anything you just said. Just making a point and I should have been more specific in that urban public schools will be the ones losing athletes to the private schools in a bidding war.

I belive that a bidding war for athletes would be the absolute worst thing for HS athletics in KY, but I think that it would happen if there were a split just based on Public/Private. I also think it would encourage an atmosphere in the Urban Public schools that is open to cheating. I also think it would hurt the mission of Religious Private schools, if it did occur in these places.

I would think that not getting state/federal money may go a bit deeper then that but I have never heard anything from anyone on the private side wanting a change in who they compete against in athletics because they don't take those funds.

Cause the playing field is tilted in your favor, remember?:p:sssh:;):jump::D

Cheating is cheating and if they used players that recieved improper help to attend there school then yes the punishment should be the same. LCA not only recruited players they also payed there tution illegally.

Did LCA violate Bylaw 10 as well as Bylaw 7?
