I heard an interesting rumor Friday night regarding Coach Listerman at CovCath. Was told he would be leaving at the end of the season and possibly taking the Cooper coaching job? Anyone else hear something similar to this

It's to my understanding that the Boone Co school system has to hire from within if a "qualified" applicant wants the job 1st. I have know idea who's applied but it makes sense for a private school coach to get into the public school system and get that retirement padded a bit! I'm sure they'll hire the right guy!

I've heard from a very reliable source from within the program that Coach Listerman has no intention of going anywhere and wants to remain the coach at CovCath for a long time.

The way it was told to me, it would not be his choice to leave. It sounded like he may have ticked off the wrong people. Should be interesting to see if there is any truth to this rumor once the season ends.

He and Coach T are, and have always been, the ABSOLUTE best choices to be the coaches of CovCath basketball. They are 'CovCath' right down to the core. They bleed blue and are good fruit from a good healthy tree and their roots go deep enough to shake off any ugly diseases that come along to try to infect them. Discussion about someone's eminent firing is unethical and in poor taste. This rumor is out there every year. Rumors are just rumors. Don't read much into them.

I don't remember him saying anything about Coach Horton, but it would seem that he was pretty close, wouldn't it?

I think the chances of Coach L leaving by his own choice my never come. Eventually he will step down as head coach but going to a different school I find hard. Having him in class it is obvious that CCH is where he wants to be not only as a coach but as a teacher. Many people think that he is all about coaching but his heart is also very much in betting the lives of the youth of the Cov Cath community. Coach L is a great guy and IMO I think the family and tradition at CCH will keep him here for as long as they will allow.

I have the greatest respect for Colonel Nation, but it is hard to read Coach Horton compaired in any respect to Coach Listerman. The exemplary talent Coach Listerman brings to the court is matched by the exemplary talent he brings to the classroom and the exemplary talent he exercises as an adult in charge of a group of high spirited young men. Coach L. would give his kids, past & present, superstar, bench-warmer and water boy alike, the shirt off of his back, a kidney or anything else they might ever need...and probably without having to be asked. I respect him as a person much more than as a coach and he is my favorite coach of all time at any level.

I could not agree more Flotsam. My point is Maverick likes to throw around his/her inside information about coaching changes as they said almost word for word in another thread that it was also not Horton's choice to leave. I said nothing about comparing the two men.

I have also heard the rumor (about Coach L being forced out), but I think it would be a huge mistake if the Administration allowed it to happen. Coach L is a wonderful teacher, outstanding coach and more importantly a devout Catholic, who leads his life as a true Catholic. If I had a son, and he played basketball, heck if he just went to CovCath, I couldn't think of a better person for him to look up to.

 

To all those who would like to see Coach L leave, I have a question: Tell me please, other than my man Mote, who else has taken CovCath to the promised land, that is the Sweet Sixteen? Yes Mr. Tieman did one time, and, and, and, come on gentlemen who else? For all the great teams that have played at CovCath over all these years it's, Mote 5, Mike 2, and Dan 1! BTW don't tell me he had the talent and no one else ever did, don't at all want to hear that one at all!

You nailed it. Regardless of what outsiders think about his antics on the sideline, this is about a quality guy as there is.
