Mason is a great team well due their credits ! But those teams above have not all meet Mason Co. Some have lost 9 or 10 games, so who knows. Has Mason Co. lost to any of those teams ? If they play classes or Sweet 16 ,it's for sure that half the teams playing win . And they all can't go !

And they lost to LC and somebody else. Mason is even better than I thought originally , thats for sure...they are the real deal. I expected the EC game to be closer. And you should support them as you have. But I did see a team very similar many many years ago. They were pre-season 20th in the nation. Rolled over their state like a mowing machine, averaging well over 100 pts. per game pre- 3pnt line and no dunks permitted. They fell in the second round, they could not make a shot in the second half. Not defense, just brain lock. Mason does have three defeats, so never think it can't happen again. Keep in mind I have no dog in this hunt. If they win I'm fine with it.:thumb:

They are a private school that you must pay to attend. Four schools in that county. Ashland Blazer- Boyd Co. Fairview , and Rose Hill Christian. That would be in a county not much bigger than Mason Co. So don't divide your school into four !!:creepy:

Nice to see Mason County playing this way late in the regular season. I did get to Cynthiana Friday night and that game was a clinic. Miller had 17 in the first quarter, finished with something like 29 and 15 boards. 65-31 at half against a team that probably would be "middle of the pack" in the 16th. Then to play 24 hours later and take EC to the woodshed; well, it looks like the Royals are clicking right now.

 

And let's give some credit to Elliott County. Lots of folks, myself included, see EC as a nice team that, but that is realistically a year away from being a powerhouse in the state. They will struggle against teams with size and quickness that play defense; and as I've said MANY TIMES, Mason County's defense is overlooked. Elliott County evidently just ran into a buzzsaw last night; wish I could have been there.

 

Good luck to EC in the tourney. While they may very well come out of the 16th, it's just my humble opinion that Rose Hill would maybe present a tougher matchup for Mason County. Speaking of Rose Hill, the motel we stayed at in Lexington for the weekend was crawling with folks from RH. I think they were playing in a middle school tournament?

Papa mentioned something in this post that I believe is at the core of the Royals success. This is Mason County's defense.

It is a tribute to Coaches O'Hearn, Moore, Faulkner and Butler that at each level the play is the same...hard nosed, disciplined team presssure with energy, strength, hustle and teamwork. This is what fuels the Royals.

OHearn won his 100th game Saturday and is something like 100 and 24 in his four year tenure. The Varsity lost three games with one regular season game to go, JV one and the Frosh one An amazing record and even more outstanding when considering the Royals varsity played the most competitive schedule in school history.

Of course you cant win games without dedicated, talented young men (being long, tall and strong helps) willing to buy into the O'Hearn system and the Royals have done that.

Congratulations on a great year Royals and I hope there is more to come.Go Royals!!!

I don't think you got the point I was making. What I said was that 11 teams in the top 20 are in 3 regions and only 3 of these teams will make it to the state tournament. I never mentioned anything about Mason Co because they're not in those regions. Mason ,as you know is no. 1 in the state. When your in those regions ,you're going to lose a few games because of the competition of playing one another. :ylsuper:

We were talking about who had beat them from the teams mentioned earlier. But BTW Scott County lost to Rice as well.

One must now look to tomorrow. And hope for he best. I would just hope that Elliott learned something from this , just a little something.

Untrue. Not taking anything away from Ferguson, but he scored 8-10 points (two threes, two free throws, and either one or two jumpers) in the final 4:00 after all of Mason's starters were out for good. Of his other 20 or so then, probably 12-15 were scored on Miller.

 

Like I said, nothing against Ferguson, he looked like a very good player. Here's a question for fans that have seen Elliott play more often this year than the one time I have: has anyone equal to or with more length than Miller guarded Ferguson this season?

 

I don't think this is actually accurate. I watched to see when the MC starters would be taken out because of all the talk about this situation concerning EC. Mason had at least 4 starters if not all 5 on the floor in the 4th when the subs were sent to the scorers table at 2:34! Due to play not stopping it was about 1:26 or so when they left the floor!

I would have to agree the 10th region is stronger than the 16th region, but before everyone says the 16th region has no chance at Rupp, let me rewind you to last years Russell team vs this same Mason County team in the 5th 3rd. Russell was one free throw in regulation, or a last ditch shot going down in overtime from taking this same Mason County team down.:scared:
