Rockmom's "B-Comedy Movie" moment

Featured Replies

I was so proud of myself. I spent hours on Monday and Tuesday clearing the steps from the door of my house down to the sidewalk. I live in a house that's up on a hill, and there are 18 steps from the street level to my front door. I swept. I salted. I swept. I salted. I swept...I salted....you get the picture. The last thing I wanted was ice on my steps.

On each side of the steps, because it's a straight-down hill, the yard is planted with ivy. Well, there are curbs around the ivy to contain it. This creates a channel, whereby all the water flows down the steps. But...last night, it had stopped the incessant raining that was yesterday's weather. I made sure to put the last of the salt on the steps before I went to bed.

HOWEVER...I got up this morning and there was an inch of ice on the steps! :irked:

So, I leave the house.....see the ice....grab the hand rail, step down onto the first step....and immediately goe sliding feet first down the steps, across the sidewalk at the bottom, and into the street, bumping all the way down.

All the way down, I'm thinking, "Something's gonna be broken when I get to the bottom."

I was saved from total humiliation by the fact that it was only 5:30am and none of my neighbors were up yet to witness the stunt.

I lay in the street a minute, thinking of my options.

Option 1: Get up, go back in the house and tell work I won't be in. HOWEVER, that entails getting BACK up the steps I just slid down. Didn't sound like a viable option.

Option 2: Call 911 from my cell phone and wait for the ambulance to pick my butt up off the street.

Option 3: Suck it up. Get up, and negotiate the icy path up the street to the bus stop and get into work.

I choose option 3. So...I get up, make my way to work, and lo and behold! One of my staff who was scheduled to work with me this morning calls me to tell me she can't get out of her parking lot! She won't be in! Then another co-worker calls in, and then several more come in late!

In the end, all I could do was laugh.

No point, really, to this story. I just had to share how my day went. I guess you could say it was a Rockmom rant. :D

I am just very happy that you weren't hurt. I have to be at work regardless of how bad it gets, also. So sit down and pat yourself on the back. If it hurts to do that, take an Advil.LOL.

:lol::lol::lol:

No way I would have went to work after that..

Maybe that wasn't an option if she couldn't get back up the icy steps that she just slid down.

Glad to hear your ok Rockmom. I imagine you may be alittle sore the next few days.

I've go some beautiful bruises! And I'm already sore.

Since I'm the Director of Guest Services, I don't have the option, really, of not going to work. My role is operational and I have to be there. However, I was MOST tempted to not go!

I'd hit the bar..

I do hope nothing was broken.

I'm fairly certain the only thing seriously damaged is my pride.

I do live right in the heart of some of the coolest nightlife...unfortunately they closed an hour and a half before I began my adventure.

Wow Rockmom, I feel for you. Ill bet you looked good going down those steps. But I would bet you looked good anywhere.:thumb:

Rockmom, the same type of thing happened to me a couple of years ago, but I had 4 people run out to me while I was laying in the middle of the street, so I know how you feel. I would have done the same as you and I did. I sucked it up and composed myself, as much as possible, and went on to work. That's adult life... sometimes not to pretty.

I choose option 3. So...I get up, make my way to work, and lo and behold! One of my staff who was scheduled to work with me this morning calls me to tell me she can't get out of her parking lot! She won't be in! Then another co-worker calls in, and then several more come in late!

That just marks the difference between you and others who just don't care. It's about dedication and duty.

I have to say, your story was much more entertaining this way. Hearing it live was way more scary.

I know you're banged up (again ;)); but I hope you're not "too" sore tomorrow. Thank goodness you don't have to try climbing the stairway to hell again tomorrow. :thumb:

I do hope nothing was broken.
I could be sooo mean here....;)

Rockmom, glad to hear you are okay. I too did this one year ago 2/2007 I was walking out of the Freedom Center Garage in Cincy and I fell on a patch of ice got up fell again. (The only reason I am telling on myself is that it is funny now). I was bruised all over and beleive me I was hurting however, my pride was crushed as two people saw me and by the time they got to me I got up and fell again. They stood there and tried not to laugh however, I too was laughing until about an hour later and I was hurting. Have a great day Rockmom. JD

Wow...sorry to hear that. I know how horrible something like that can be....

Last year, when we had ice, I was at the hospital waiting for PH to have a surgery...well, after it was over, I decided to go outside to make calls and walk across the street to the main lobby to get me something to eat. I made it outside just fine. I got to the road and went into the crosswalk, where it was slick. I fell and kept going on my butt. I went head first into a light pole. People were out there laughing and trying to help me up. The more they tried, the more my head kept hitting the pole and the more people fell with me. By the time it was over, four people had fallen trying to help me up. Well, I got up and decided that I did not want anything to eat after that, so, I just wanted to go back and see if PH was in recovery yet. Well, heck, guess what, I slid again and fell going back across. I got up on my own this time though.
