February 14, 200818 yr When he played last year Grutza was good, didn't he win player of the week in the Big East one week??? I think he should be the #1 heading into the season, what has Jones ever done besides fumble?
February 14, 200818 yr I think it is Grutza job until it is taken from him. My opinion and I think he is a really good QB. JD
February 14, 200818 yr I don't think the job is anyone's at this point. Both Grutza and Pike have an advantage as they've been in the system for a year. Jones has been around to understand things now, and he was recruited by Kelly out of high school, so Kelly is very familiar with him. There's no question that Grutza is a workhorse, but I don't foresee him being the starter next year.
February 14, 200818 yr I have nothing concrete to base it on but I don't think Grutza is a "Kelly guy." He's going to have to be the CLEAR winner in the qb battle.

But that is part of the game. I'm not there during practise so maybe the coaches saw something I didn't. I'm sure they know whats best for the team.

Dustin played well when he got the chance, but he in no way, shape or form was the better option. I am at a lot of practices, and I talk to the coaches. They made the right call. Dustin will be given a shot to earn the job, but his arm is a limitation in the system Kelly runs. He's a savy veteran, and that could be a big factor in how this plays out...

And did you watch any games the previous year when Grutza was the starter? IMO, it's pretty clear that the best QB was the starter this past season. I'm not knocking Grutza in any way as I've read nothing but positive things about him, but Mauk was the better QB of the two for Kelly's system.
