Now Who's Number 1?

Featured Replies

My Top 5:

1. Mason County, 2. Scott Co., 3. Bryan Station, 4. Lexington Catholic, 5. Holmes,

My "Sleepers":

Eastern, DeSales, Ballard, Manual, Owensboro, University Heights,

I only throw in UHA on the Hopson factor alone. I could see him showing shades of Barbour during his Saturday run with E-town. Not saying they'll even make it to Rupp, but he definitely has the potential to tear it up, especially on the big stage.

Eta Rho, Holmes looks like a good team and may belong with the top four but how can one say? You place a lot of weight on a Holmes overtime win over CovCath who beat LexCath in a close one in the first game of the season. A lot has happened since then. The top four have intermingled and only the amazing Kreskin could sort them out. Holmes isn't in this group yet and may be above or below it, my guess is below.

And that is why I still would have Holmes as my #5. Too much weight is being placed on one quality win. The reverse side of that coin is a loss to Male, who in turn has lost to Shelby Valley, Eastern, 10-10 Seneca and 7-15 Christian County. A little stronger schedule would give Holmes a better case for a higher ranking. As the old saying goes, "to be the man you gotta beat the man".

Which, if Holmes represents the 9th at Rupp, they will have a chance to do.:thumb:

Nothing like an occasional Nature Boy reference in a HS basketball thread...

Nicely said mcpapa.

Hey I totally agree. All I'm saying is while Holmes schedule may not be up to par with the other 4, they are still winning and winning big like they should against the teams they are playing. It's not like their schedule is a cake walk. As I eluded to before, they have only played 5 teams with losing records. And while that loss looks somewhat bad to Male, it was toward the beginning of the year (which is your argument for why Lexcath lost to CCH) as well as on a neutral court to a top 20 team.

I guess, as MCPapa said, Holmes will just have to come down to Rupp and prove themselves again this year like they did last year in their run to the state semis. See you at Rupp fellas. :thumb:

My South Laurel Cardinals? I dont know that they have ever been MY SL. I believe one of my two teams won the title last year. :sssh:

How many teams do you have???

Didnt I say two?

I have Bell, who I played for and graduated from, and my adopted team in Scott Co. Spent a lot of time in Gtown working a while back, had a couple friends that played there back in their day, and a buddy who has coached there, and ya gotta like Coach Hicks and his EKY roots. Had to pick a team locally, so SC gets the nod.

I haven't seen Holmes play this year but a lot of people are saying they are better than they were last year. Considering how Holmes was very good last year and that they had one of the best defensive teams in the state I would put them in the discussion among the state's top teams IF that statement is true.

I have got to say, I love this site :argue: :thumb: !!!!! I just hope everybody will get to see this team!!!!!

Holmes is definetly better this year. While the overall talent isn't as good as last year's (Jefferson, Hill, Rice), as a team they are much better. Last year's group didn't play defense as well as this year's and definetly weren't as deep as this year's which showed when Jefferson fouled out in the state semi's against Scott Co.

Holmes goes 10 deep this year and doesn't lose a beat offensively or defensively.. One of the biggest differences between this year's and last year's team, is you don't see anyone pointing the finger when someone makes a mistake.

It's kind of funny though that the people who have actually seen them play will tell you how much better they are this year but its the ones who haven't seen them who try to criticize them...

To be the MAN you have to BEAT the MAN!

Who is criticizing Holmes? It's like you're trying to create bulletin board material.

Apparently now saying they arent on the level of the other 4 is criticizing.
