Now Who's Number 1?

Featured Replies

I still believe Bryan Station is the top team in the state and they are still the team to beat IMO. I mean they did the same thing to Scott County on their home floor. I just believe they had one of those games where nothing went right and believe this loss will only make them that much more deadly in March. As far as ratings go I think Holmes deserves the #1 spot because they just keep winning and obviously after a loss like this Bryan Station will not stay at #1 but they are still the team to beat...jmo. All I mean by this is that if I was a Coach/Player and I had one choice of who not to play come tournament time it would be Bryan Station.

I don't have a team, therefore I'm not a homer or a shill for anyone.

The top four has been the same for some time, and will remain so for as long as I can tell.

I believe you said this same thing last year and they made it to the state semis defeating your South Laurel Cardinals on the way. This Holmes TEAM is better than last year's version. Unless you've seen them, don't knock them.

My South Laurel Cardinals? I dont know that they have ever been MY SL. I believe one of my two teams won the title last year. :sssh:

Holmes who is 21 - 1 and get no respect through out the State. That is great I would rather it be that way. No one gives the 9th any credit since we are from Norhtern Kentucky. There are several good teams up here and they each other knock each other off during the year. Well take the 9th serious because there are some good teams up here and they can play basketball. Our top 6 teams will be tough for anyone to beat. JD

Mason Co. should be on top again.
My vote goes to Holmes at this point in the season.

Eta you are right, don't knock the Dawgs if you have not seen them. Defensively the best team in KY!!! Period!!! 8 to 10 deep will guard like there is no tomorrow. I predict they will go deep into the state. Watch out Ky, Dawgs are coming back to Rupp!!! :thumb:

At this point, I have to say anyone BUT the royals. In my opinion, Mason County isn't playing like the #1 team in state right now with or without Keith Downing. They're playing inconsistant, taking BAD shots and not playing defense. It truly pains me to say this but sometimes the truth hurts.

This is probably true, but atleast they don't have to play in the 6th, 7th, or 11th regions.

Holmes is getting plenty of respect across the state, but it's a good bet that Bryan Station, Mason County, Lexington Catholic and Scott County would also be 21-1 against Holmes' schedule.

I think most ppl would agree with this statement, well said westsider:thumb:

Yea your probably right, because Lexcath already lost to someone on Holmes schedule in CCH.

When Henley came up with the schedule he didn't anticipate he would be getting 2 outstanding sophomores in Rico and Jeremiah Johnson (Brothers who transferred late summer from Taft, Ohio) which would turn Holmes from a pretty good team to one of the best in the state.

While Holmes schedule may not be as rigorous as Mason Co, Scott Co, and Lexcath, once again the bottom line is Holmes keeps winning which is what good teams do...right? Last year their schedule was weaker than this years and they still made it to the semi finals of the sweet 16, but you heard nobody talking about their schedule during the season because they went 19-8 losing 5 of 7 at one point.

I think it just goes to show how people will try to say anything to discredit a team for their accomplishments.

One last question...have you seen them play this year? See you at Rupp.

I know all about Holmes and the transfers ... and no one doubted that they would be a 9th Region contender this season.

And yes, Holmes did beat CovCath ... in overtime on the Bulldogs' home floor. LexCath lost a tight game at CovCath, which doesn't have a reputation as one of the state's toughest places to play for nothing. Sounds like a wash to me ...

Last season's schedule was weaker? Hardly. Holmes played in the Jeffersontown and 5/3 tournaments last year.

Who is discrediting Holmes? Certainly not me ... you're barking up the wrong tree.

Haven't seen the Bulldogs this year, but looking forward to seeing them in Rupp. I root for them because of their coach.

1. Coming in to the season people thought Holmes would be a contender but that was it. Not many expected them to be as good as they are. (Read posts from earlier in the year in their threads)

2. Yes Holmes beat CCH in overtime on their home floor in OT but that can be deceiving. Holmes was up 3 with less than a minute to go after trailing by 11 midway through the 4th quarter and had 3 straight chances to win the game at the line but couldn't seal the deal. CCH scores and forces OT. In OT Holmes dominated. And trust me, while it may have been a home game for Holmes, everyone knows you can throw home court advantage out against CCH because of the fan base that they bring with them. The fieldhouse definetly had both sides full of red on one side and blue on the other.

3. Last year's downstate competition was better than this years, but last year the 9th region wasn't as good as this year's. Holmes has only played 5 teams with a losing record.

4. I never said you were discrediting them. You simply made a comment that the others would be 21-1 with Holmes schedule as well, which I agreed with because As we all know Mason Co, Bryan Station, Scott Co, and Lexcath are all very good teams. I was simply talking about others who were bashing them because of their schedule and didn't even consider Holmes among the other 4, when Holmes has the best record in the state.

5.And hopefully not only you but the rest of the state will get a chance to see how just good this team really is this year at Rupp. I'm not saying they are the best team in the state. But they are among the top 3 to 4 teams and in a 2 game series would split with any of the teams mentioned.

Lastly, if you havent seen a team play, don't judge them on their schedule. (not directed toward you in particular, but to anyone who reads this). If you notice, I have said nothing about Bryan Station, simply because I haven't seen them play, therefor I don't want to judge them on what I read. All are very good teams, but guess we'll have to wait until Rupp to see who dukes it out.

People can argue all day about who is the best team. I have seen the 4 top teams several times now. No one has seperated themselves yet as being the best. Mason vs. Bryan Station and LexCath vs. Scott Co. are 2 must see games the remainder of the regular season.
