Any news? If they want somebody to come in and start working to build the program, then they dont need to drage the process out and miss spring ball and offseason workouts.

I just spent the last year coaching along side Coach U and I can say without a doubt "He is one of the finest men I have ever met." Not only does he bring a complete knowledge of the game with him, but he also brings a dedication and work ethic rarely surpassed. In a difficult situation, because of his living distance from Holmes, I can not remember a time when he was not the first to arrive and one of the last to leave. The people of Owen county would have to go a very long way to find a coach with as much knowledge and dedication as Coach U. If he were to leave Holmes for Owen county he would be sorely missed, but still greatly admired.

Coaching on the high school level, for anyone who has been there knows, is a labor of love, and Coach U loves the game. His players will quickly come to know this and respect him for it. As someone who knows Coach U but is really not involved other than being a coach myself, I must say that to not give him very careful consideration to become your next head football coach would be a horrible mistake.

Coach U had about 6 years there to get the job done, but could never pull out that winning record. Looks like it is time for somebody else to try. If coach U is such a great football mind and dedicated then he would not have any trouble finding a job at the high school, college, or professional level.

HD-- 1st of all, we are Owen's biggest rival and I can tell you first hand that you are mistaken about Coach U. He is agreat guy and coach that comes from the old school of coaching. He is a good coach and I believe that he went as far to build a house there. A house he fell off of and broke his legs but still coach in a wheel chair, on crutches,and in his walking boot. He is dedicated and did a good job this year on Coach Lickert's staff. I am not saying he is the right man for Owen, maybe they need new blood but before you get on here and bash him about his football mind and dedication, get to know him on a personal level. He is a great competitor and works hard at his profession. If I heard right, the reason he was let go at Owen last year was because he was demanding upgrades for his program and the administration would not back him on it.

Thanks for the backing on my opinion Brave1. Coah U has obviously made an impression on you too. Here at Holmes, we never mention the boot. We just tell everybuddy Coach has a hitch in his step, Kinda like "ol Festus" from Gunsmoke, if your old enough to remember::thumb:

Having played there many years ago I would have to agree with you on the state of things now. To have a winning program you must have support at every level, and in my opinion it is not there from the top. Being at a rival school I see a very big differnce from the admin. here and at Owen. It is sad to see a program go from the state semi finals when I was there to where it is today.

Josh Slone had 254 total yards the first game. The next game he touched it 3 times. The two best recievers, Ogden and Howard didn't even play offense this past year. Howard was the fastest kid on the team and was a RB and WR 3 previous years. When an assistant coach has to throw the ball to simulate a kickoff instead of a player kicking it its coaching problems. Owen Co. never had a PAT or FG all year. Don't you think a coach would have maybe practiced kicking once in a while, in stead of a coach throwing the ball for a kickoff? I've talked to at least 4 College Coaches about Owen Co. players playing for them but they couldn't contact them because our Head Coach wouldn't answer an E-Mail or return a phone call to them. How many kids on Owen's team could have a chance to play at the next level if only their coach would cooperate? Howard, Ogden, Slone, Kelly, Stafford and Snyder to name a few. Don't say that their wasn't any talent there. They were not coached very well. My son has 4 Colleges interested in him playing football. When they ask him for his stats or what awards he has recieved, he has to answer :Our coach didn't give out any stats or awards. Good thing for game film.

 

I agree with you. The talent was there on the field for Owen Co. to be extremely competitve with the schedule they were playing. No way should this team that I saw play have ended up with a 1-10 record.....not with the schedule they had. It's honestly sad that a coach will not help the kids on his team get to the next level if it is indeed true that he will not do something as simple as replying to an email or making a phone call. One thing I am curious about though is the fact that your son has 4 different colleges interested in him as a prospective football play. If this is the case seems to me sometime during the year or years some coach helped develope him into the player that he has become. Am I wrong in making this assumption or was your son just that much better than the rest of the competition that he faced that he did not need any coaching?

I really don't get where you're coming from regarding lack of support. Maybe the wrong decision was made in the coaching hire, but I think that from the BD of ED, Central Office, and school level administration, there is support for a winning program. These kids deserve a coach that can motivate, discipline, and place the right personnel in the game to put them in a position to win. I hope they are successful in finding the right guy.
