I agree with all you said except the coach part. Obviously football knowledge is not required to coach at Owen. It's filling the teaching position thats more important.

 

 

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, that is the case in alot of counties and unforunately too much across this state. Who do we thank for this. While football is the ultimate team sport and teaches young men many valuable lessons, the importance of quality "football" coaches seems to be downplayed. Now I know that the role of a school teacher is even more important, there should/could be a little more importance placed on these people we entrust to mold our young men into quality individuals. While there are many knowledgeable people in regards to football fundamentals and the lessons football can teach, there are fewer who can actually translate that to the practice field, weightroom and game situations.

Jones is the former HC @ Powell County & current/former(?) HC @ Phelps. That is all I know about him.

Bruce Jones? Is that the same Coach Jones who was 9-22 at Powell County and 0-10 this year at Phelps? If so, that would be a good choice if Owen County wanted to keep strugglling. I am suprised he would be able to get another Head Coaching job.

Even though Coach Jones record doesn't speak much. But to have the courage to take a job these places and make improvements. Everywhere he has left he has left it in better shape. You can't always judge a coach on wins and losses. He knows football.

I dont know Bruce Jones or never met him. He could be the best football mind in the world, but he does not have a very good track record at the moment. I was not saying head coaches should not have other chances, but if Coach Jones went to Owen County it would be his 3rd job in 5 years. That is not a very good track record. Now I agree he has took some jobs nobody else would want, but why? It looks like he didnt want Phelps either if he is already ready to leave? You have to wonder? Plus, is'nt Phelps a long way from Powell County and Even farther from Owen? 3-4 hour range I would say. So how would he do spring practice and stuff being that far away?

The probelm is Owen County is nt committed to having a football program. The facilities need improvements. Every time I have been to Owen County it looks like the same place I played at in the late 80's.

Understanding the X's and O's, gameplanning, scouting, preparing the team, teaching correct techniques, proper form, tailoring schemes to available talent, teaching assistant coaches how to be better coaches, utilizing proper blitz packages against different offensive sets, calling pass plays based on secondary coverage?

Well, if thats true, I don't see it being a problem him getting the job or another job. I wish him the best. I hope I am wrong, but I just think history will repeat itself.

COACHBUCKETT, Since you seem to have such close connections to Coach Jones, what kind of offseaon program is he running at Phelps? How is he getting student athletes to that next level? How committed is he to that community and the same for when he was at Powell County? How committed was he to those 2 communities?
