No word on a coach, but I have heard that if it was for a couple guys there in the county then Owen County wouldn't have had spring football. I think a couple of assistants have stepped up to take that role. That is because they are the only ones who have the kids at heart. If if had been left up to the admin Owen wouldn't have spring football. Who knows from what I'm hearing they may not have a coach for a while. Thats not good.

It's sad to hear that a program gets to the point where Owen is at now. It's good to hear the assistants of the past year stepped up to have spring ball. At least there are a few out there looking out for the kids that love the sport of football.

Any word on how many came out for Spring football? I say they are like us and a big majority play baseball as well. That prolly cut their numbers.

I understand that Ogden broke a school record with interceptions but the coach didn't even know how many. Is that so? How many did he actually have?

I talked to a parent from Owen and they said no one had been named as head coach as of right now. I also asked them about the the turnout for Spring ball and they averaged around 14 to 15 a day. Couple days they had 19. They are looking forward to this year because there are some good kids returning. They had alot of parent issues last year and not much dedication from the players.Alot of missed practices from the players. I think that is to be blamed on the parents. They said the head coach wasn't the whole issue last year, but that is behind them now. They are just looking to moving forward if possible. At this point that is all they can do and hopefully they will get a coach soon. That way the kids at least know what is going on. At this point when you go through so many coaches and here nothing but complaints. It's not the coaches, and that goes for any school. Parents and players always look for an excuse or someone to blame. Granted you may not like whose coaching, but get in there and do your best then your real talent will show. Think about it whoever your playing against has to see you as well. If your good then other coaches will notice you. The administration over there really needs to get someone in there that has no connections with the county. That way they can run their own program and not worry whose toes their stepping on.

This kid ended up with like 8 INTs I think. Whether or not thats a school record is a totally different story. And if the coach doesn't know if it's a record or not then who would?

Many "school records" can not be confirmed by many new coaches due to lack of evidence of past years. Film can provide some evidence, but who has time to watch 10 years (assuming that is still available) worth of film to have an "accurate" account of who did what.

 

The newspaper might be able to peice together a history for the coach if they reported stats over a period of time. Otherwise, like anything else, if nobody wrote it down...it never happened.

I think Coach Hockensmith was the AD last year. The AD over there now is a guy named Randy Bishop. I think they are waiting on a teaching position to come open before they do anything. It is to my understanding that the parents as well as the players are pretty much fed up with how the administration drug their feet on this.

Excellent point! I did not take this into concideration when making the statement that I did earlier about the stats and the coach. Haha according to what I have heard and prior posts though this coach from last year didn't even have time to watch film on the upcoming opponent much less film on the years past!

It sure sounds like the Owen AD needs to step up A.S.A.P. and get someone who will be around for a while and make sure he brings back those two assistants who have stepped up in the absence of a head coach. Sounds like they are there for the kids. It truly saddens me to hear of Owen's football struggles. Hopefully, they will get back on track soon.

I am surprised that kids from that area serious about football have not just packed it up and moved on. There are some nice football programs in the sorrounding counties, Scott, Franklin, Carroll. As a parent I am not sure I would stay to play a part in this mess.
