I couldn't agree with you more. Now that two local guys didn't get the job Hilton will be there best choice. Bruce Jones is definately not what they need over there. Talk with the assistant from Owen earlier and said kids were very excited that Hilton had applied. If he gets it I say Owen County will have a big turn out in their program. Even though we will be matched up with them this year. I still have a heart for that program. There are some good Seniors coming up and those kids deserve the best. Gotta love those boys.

Have you ever met Bruce Jones? Have you ever watched him teach kids the game of football? I would be willing to bet you haven't. So for you to say Coach Jones is not what Owen County needs would be a unsupported statement.

I have said this before and I will say it again. There is only one common factor in Owen County as it relates to Football Program......... The people in the County. I am talking about Administration, kids, and supporters.

 

I know Mr. Hilton and yes he is a good guy. But does being a good guy mean he can coach? I can't answer that because I haven't seen him coach kids. I have seen coach Jones and I know he will put everything he has into it. Now who knows if that is enough to win at Owen. Becasue I am sure there have been plenty of coaches in the past that have tried with no LUCK.

Coach Jones would do a great job if given the opportunity and "support" that any head football coach must have. He worked his tail off at Powell County but never got the support from the administration to turn the program around. Then they go and lay out the red carpet for Mike Whitaker the following year. From what I've heard Phelps administration made many promises to get him in Pike County and did not follow through on any of them.

 

I would want my son to play for someone like coach Jones, he is a hard worker, runs a disciplined practice, tries to get kids on to the next level, and has a good relationship with the community / boosters.

I heard mentioned that Hilton was a recruiter for K-State and referees baseball or something. What is his coaching experience? I know Bruce Jones has been a head coach for several years and coached as an assistant before that for many year. Now I have not been the biggest Jones supporter, but I have not heard anything "resume" wise that puts Hilton head and shoulders above Jones.

What is Hiltons experience. Jones took over a medicore Powell and got them a little better. Yes, he did not post 7-8 wins a year, but how many schools post those many wins year in and year out. Coach U at best was 5 wins a year and everyone has said how great he was. Also, look at Phelps, they were not very good before. I just want to know if Hilton is so good, then why didnt he coach last season? Surely, some head coach would have got him to help coach.

Their basketball teams have done well this year... must be talent there... if they will play football.

Bruce should apply in Frankfort. There are no teaching spots open, so I doubt he would want to come to Frankfort.

 

He didn't win at Phelps because he was only there one season. The admin. broke promises to give him the tools he needed to be successful.

 

He made improvements at Powell Co. Had they given him a little more time he might had did things better.

 

Powell and Owen are a lot a like. They (Admin) say they want to win but do very little to make an effort to win.

The boys in Owen Co are very excited about the possibility of having Hilton as a coach because of the way he handles himself and treats them as a basketball and baseball official. I don't know Bruce Jones. Can someone tell me where he is now? What does he teach? About how old is he?

So Hilton is going to be a good football coach because he officiates basketball and baseball? Sounds to me if he was such a good coach, he would be coaching football instead of officiating basketball and baseball. Is he a teacher?

Excellent "Code of Ethics". I think I have heard this someone where before though

First of all, at this point your are gonna have to get kids back to being interested in the program. It has been up and down over there the last couple years. The kids know Hilton and if they respect him and are willing to play under him, that says alot. I think the kids coming up and the upcoming Seniors are a great bunch of kids. They are the kinda kids that don't give you trouble unlike last year. Just hearing from different ones in the school system and the kids, there are already about 10 kids that said they would play if Hilton got the job. That's interesting. These are kids that didn't play last year or the year before that are pretty athletic. I think they are interviewing tonite.
